Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Josh Reichert (Englewood, Colo./Kent School) scored a career-high five goals on five shots and classmate Kyle McGrath (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) added three goals as No. 5 Gettysburg held off a second-half rally to defeat No. 6 Washington & Lee University 15-10 in the second round of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships Saturday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

With the win, Gettysburg's 12th straight, the Bullets advance to the quarterfinals for the sixth year in a row and will take on No. 14 Denison University, which upset No. 3 Roanoke College 14-7 on Saturday, on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

The victory was the sixth straight in the NCAA second round for the Bullets (14-3), who are on their longest winning streak since a school-record 14-gamer in 2001.

Washington & Lee (16-4) was led by senior Seth Fishman, who scored three goals, while senior Tim Skeen had two goals and two assists.

Gettysburg never trailed and led 9-4 at the half, only to see the Generals pull to within one (10-9) following a 5-1 run capped by a Harry St. John goal with 26 seconds left in the third quarter. However, junior Joe Brody (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) reversed the momentum when he scored with four seconds left, giving the Orange & Blue an 11-9 advantage heading into the fourth period, when Gettysburg outscored W&L 4-1.

Brody finished with one goal and three assists while senior Zach Pucci (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) tacked on one goal and a pair of helpers.

Senior Zach Furshman (Miami, Fla./Kent School [Conn.]) made six saves in goal for the Bullets while senior Connor Locke stopped nine shots for Washington & Lee.

Gettysburg struck for two quick goals in the opening 1:15 to take a 2-0 lead, getting tallies from McGrath and Pucci. Fishman answered with back-to-back goals to pull the Generals even, but the Bullets used a 5-0 run spanning into the second quarter to open up a 7-2 advantage.

Reichert sparked the surge with consecutive goals 27 second apart before a McGrath tally made it 5-2 with 3:41 on the clock. Senior Tom O'Donnell (Montgomeryville, Pa./La Salle College) ended the first-quarter scoring when he found the back of the net 45 seconds before the end of the period.

Reichert ended the run with 9:47 left in the opening half to give the Bullets their early five-goal lead. The two teams traded tallies twice over the remainder of the half, with Fishman and junior Will Keigler scoring for W&L and sophomore Danno Lynch (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms [Conn.]) and Reichert converting for Gettysburg, making it a 9-4 game at the half.

The Generals cut the deficit to 9-6 with 8:09 to go in the third quarter following goals from St. John and Skeen before a McGrath goal made it 10-6. But Washington & Lee came back with a 3-0 spurt on goals from Skeen, sophomore Spence Daw, and St. John, cutting the gap to one before Brody's big goal.

Junior Patrick Koehl (Shamong, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep) gave the Bullets some additional breathing room when he scored 1:31 into the fourth quarter, and sophomore Andrew Ryan (Palm Beach, Fla./Westminster School [Conn.]) made it a four-goal game when he struck with 9:14 on the clock.

Washington & Lee cut it to 13-10 on a goal from sophomore Drew Koeneman with 7:13 left, but the Bullets shut out the Generals the rest of the way. Reichert and freshman Pat Sartory (West Friendship, Md./McDonogh School) provided the finishing touches, scoring one goal apiece in the final 4:24.

Gettysburg out-shot W&L 33-26 and held a 28-19 advantage in ground balls. The two teams split their 28 face-offs, but the Bullets won 10-of-15 at the X in the opening half, when senior Tim Stanton (Phoenix, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was 9-for-13. Stanton finished 13-of-25 for the game.

Senior Seldon Clarke won 8-of-12 second-half face-offs for Washington & Lee and finished 10-for-20.
