NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Gettysburg College volleyball began with an opening-set victory at Christopher Newport University, but for the third time in the last four matches the Bullets were taken down from behind as the Captains rebounded for a 3-1 decision Friday evening.
Gettysburg (9-4) fought through to a win in the opening set 29-27 only to see Christopher Newport (7-3) dominate the second frame en route to a 25-14 decision. The Bullets fought back from a deficit in the third set to pull to 23-22, but the Captains held on for the win and polished off the match with a 25-16 win in set number four.
Senior
Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) led the Bullets with her sixth double-double of the year, knocking down a dozen kills and putting up 16 digs. Sophomore
Katie McConville (Cold Harbor, N.Y./Haldane) added 11 kills and fellow sophomore
Virginia Hogan (Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee) posted nine kills.

Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) dished out a match-high 44 assists and posted 15 digs. Senior
Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) tied Mercier for team honors in digs with 16.
Gettysburg turns right back around for a pair of tough matches on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Bullets square off against host Washington & Lee University at 1 p.m. and cap the weekend against Virginia Wesleyan College at 3 p.m.
