Box Score
ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Sophomore
Kyle DeBlois (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season and freshman
Andrew McLane (Newtown, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) recorded his first collegiate goal to lead Gettysburg College team past host Eastern University 2-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match on Wednesday.
In a contest that saw only 13 total shots, Gettysburg (4-1-2) made the most of its opportunities with six of its seven attempts on goal. The Bullets' shots in the opening period were turned away, however, as Eastern (3-4-0) held the visitors out of the scoring column behind a pair of stops by goalkeeper Jon Crowder.
Each team took stabs at the goal early into the second period with Crowder stonewalling attempts by freshman
Ben Tabor (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and senior
Chris Brown (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge). The Eagles only shot on goal in the contest also came up empty as Gettysburg keeper
Mike Walmer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) turned away Andrew Baggaley's attempt in the 55th minute.
With over 70 minutes of scoreless soccer in the books, the Bullets finally found the scoring column when DeBlois converted a feed from senior
Geoff Menge (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) at 73:21. Dating back to last season, DeBlois has scored 11 goals in the last 14 matches, including scores in each of his last three contests.
It didn't take long for the visitors to extend the lead with senior
Ryan Shaffer (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) touching the ball to McLane for an insurance goal at 78:35. Walmer was untested the rest of the way to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
Gettysburg returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 26, with a key Centennial Conference match up against rival Muhlenberg College at Clark Field. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
