Bullets Beat McDaniel, 15-6

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior Joe Brody, junior Danno Lynch, and sophomore Pat Sartory all posted three goals and one assist as No. 2 Gettysburg defeated McDaniel College 15-6 at Scott S. Bair Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Bullets (11-1, 5-0 CC) won their 10th straight road game and their 12th consecutive Centennial Conference regular season contest.

It was the 10th time in 12 games this season that Gettysburg held its opponent to a single-digit goal total.

Brody has now scored 199 points for his career, which ranks sixth all-time at Gettysburg.

Senior Josh Reichert contributed two goals and one assist while junior Chris Cahill scored one goal and handed out three assists. Senior Alex White added a career-high two assists.

DJ Rickels scored three goals for McDaniel (5-5, 2-2 CC) while Gibbs Preston notched two goals and one assist. The Green Terror controlled the face-off X, where it was 16-for-25 and 9-for-11 in the first half.

McDaniel scored the game's first goal when TJ Willoughby struck 1:34 into the contest. But Gettysburg would trail for all of 2:20 on the day, as Sartory would score with 11:06 on the clock before Brody cashed in with 6:26 remaining in the opening quarter to give his team the lead for good.

Sartory tossed in his second goal with 4:57 on the clock before Rickels scored with 1:46 to go. Reichert then beat the buzzer when he sent home a shot with five seconds remaining, making it a 4-2 game at the end of the first quarter.

Reichert struck again off the second-quarter face-off, kicking off a 3-0 Bullet run. Lynch and Cahill followed up with tallies four-and-a-half minutes apart, and Gettysburg blanked McDaniel in the second quarter to take a7-2 halftime lead.

After being outshot 11-7 in the first quarter, the Bullets reversed those totals in the second stanza.

The Green Terror pulled to within four goals twice in the third quarter, first on another Rickels goal just over a minute into the half. Lynch responded for Gettysburg, converting on Cahill's third assist of the day with 11:25 left before Rickels made it a hat trick with 7:00 left to pull his team within 8-4. But the Bullets scored the final two goals of the quarter to go up 10-4, as senior Patrick Koehl and Brody each found the back of the net.

The Bullets put the game away in the fourth quarter, when it outscored the Terror 5-2. Lynch, Brody, junior Andrew Ryan, and Sartory all scored before freshman Phil Thompson notched his first collegiate goal to set the final score with 1:49 left.

Sophomore John LeClerc made four saves while yielding five goals over the opening 57:19. Classmate Lucien Reichert played the final 2:41 and stopped two shots while letting up one goal.

Ty Wittelsberger played the opening half and made six saves for McDaniel. Brad Motley played the second half and also turned aside six shots.

The Bullets continue Centennial Conference play on Saturday, when they host Ursinus College at 1 p.m.
