GETTYSBURG, Pa. – After 30 days and more than 3,200 votes, the results are in for the 2009-10 Gettysburg College Student-Athletes of the Year. The men's title went to a pair of running stars as Adrian Macdonald '10 (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and Clay Reynolds '11 (Medway, Mass./Worcester Academy) shared the top spot, while lacrosse All-American Hollis Stahl '10 (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) copped the women's crown.

During the month of June, fans of Gettysburg athletics were given the opportunity to vote for who they felt were the top male and female student-athlete during 2009-10. Polls were created for both sides on Facebook and were available for the entire month, while the men's and women's polls were each placed on the main page of GettysburgSports.com for 15 days apiece.

Entered as a dual nomination, Macdonald and Reynolds picked up over 50 percent of the 2,468 votes cast in both men's polls. Both set school records and established NCAA provisional-qualifying times during the track and field campaigns. Macdonald shattered the 33-year old school record for the indoor mile (4:12.78) and earned a trio of individual medals at the Centennial Conference indoor and outdoor track meets. An all-region performer during the cross country season, Reynolds set the school record indoors in the 800 and went on to win the title at the conference indoor meet. He also notched a national qualifying time in the outdoor 800. Both competitors helped Gettysburg claim its first-ever gold medal in a distance event at the CC outdoor meet by leading the 4x800-meter relay to a school- and conference-record time of 7:43.42.

The running duo appeared ready to sprint away with the ballot early on, but a stiff challenge from football star Matt Flynn '10 (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional) emerged midway through the month. Just days before the poll was set to close on GettysburgSports.com, Flynn overtook the dynamic duo for the lead. Apparently Macdonald's and Reynold's reputations as first-class distance runners held true in the poll as well as the pair surged ahead in the final days to finish with 1,198 votes to Flynn's 844. Flynn did earn top billing on the Facebook poll with 63 of 178 votes (34.8percent), just ahead of Macdonald and Reynolds, who tallied 58 votes (32.6 percent).

Basketball's Andrew Powers '11 (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and lacrosse's Kyle McGrath '10 (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) rounded out the men's top vote-getters with 83 and 80 total votes, respectively.

The final count in the women's voting wasn't nearly as close as Stahl accounted for 365 of the 804 votes (45.4 percent) to out-distance freshman swimmer Brooke Lacey '13 (Darien, Conn./Darien), who finished with 168 total votes (20.9 percent). Stahl, the top vote-getter on both GettysburgSports.com (283 votes) and Facebook (82 votes), was arguably the most decorated student-athlete in either poll following the success of Gettysburg's 2010 women's lacrosse season. She led the Bullets to the national semifinals for the third time in four seasons and the squad completed the year with an 18-4 overall record. Individually, she put up career highs for points (73), assists (15), ground balls (49), and draw controls (66). Stahl became the first player ever named CC Player of the Year in back-to-back years and she was first-team all-conference and first-team all-region. The top team accolades continued with first-team recognition on All-America teams picked by WomensLacrosse.com and the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA). Stahl's final award was the biggest as she was lauded as the NCAA Division III Midfielder of the Year by the IWLCA.

Cross country and track superstar Kerrin Epstein '10 (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) and basketball's Caitlin Moser '11 (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) rounded out the top four women with 114 and 69 total votes, respectively.
