Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. – A Gettysburg College men's soccer player may not have technically scored the goal, but a win is a win as the Bullets used an own goal by host Dickinson College to pull off a 1-0 double-overtime victory in Centennial Conference action on Oct. 1.

Gettysburg (5-3-1, 3-0-1 CC) ran its season-high unbeaten streak to five matches and knocked Dickinson (6-3-2, 3-1 CC) from the top of the conference standings. The Bullets now sit in a first place tie with Johns Hopkins University (5-2-3, 3-0-1 CC).

Following a scoreless double-overtime tie against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Gettysburg was in for another marathon in Carlisle on Saturday. The Bullets put the Red Devil Andrew McLane's stab at 11:49.

Sophomore Connor Darrell matched his Red Devil counterpart with a pair of saves in the first half. He preserved the scoreless half by stopping a header following a corner kick in the 37th minute.

Each keeper posted saves on back-to-back plays in the final period of regulation as Darrell stopped Nicoloas Tierno in the 72nd minute and Hickock put a halt to freshman Parker Delmolino less than a minute later. The Red Devil keeper posted two more stops in the first overtime to preserve the tie.

Just seconds after substituting into the second overtime, junior Evan Tinter helped set up the decisive score. McLane set the play with a pass to the right side and Tinter's cross was kicked into the net on an attempted clear attempt by a Red Devil defender in the 105th minute.

Gettysburg's four-match unbeaten streak is its best start to the conference season since it went 3-0-1 to start 2004.

The visitors logged a 14-8 advantage in shots, while corner kicks were even at four apiece.

Darrell made three saves en route to his fourth shutout in his last five matches. Hickock made save saves in the Dickinson goal.

Gettysburg takes a break from its conference schedule to travel to Albright College on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
