Box Score

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. – SUNY Cortland outscored Gettysburg 4-0 in the third quarter and the fourth-ranked Red Dragons pulled away to beat the 16th-ranked Bullets 9-3 at John J. Burns Park on Long Island.

It was the third year in a row the two teams met at the neutral site, with Cortland now winning two of the three meetings.

Junior Pat Sartory led Gettysburg (3-3) with two goals and one assist while sophomore goalie #J.T. McCook# made a career-high 12 saves. Jay DiStefano posted two goals and one assist to lead Cortland (4-0) while Chris DeLuca and Joe Slavik scored two goals apiece. Mike Kaminski made four saves in goal for the Red Dragons, who outshot Gettysburg 37-13 and won 13-of-16 face-offs.

The Bullet defense yielded a season-high in goals but has still not allowed an opponent to reach a double-digit goal total. Senior defenseman Tommy Barnett caused four turnovers for Gettysburg while junior Billy Grayson had three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Cortland never trailed after scoring the game's first two goals. Junior Tyler Feeley put the Bullets on the scoreboard with 12:27 left in the opening half, scoring a man-up goal off a Sartory assist, and it was a 2-1 game at the half.

The Dragons received four goals from four players in the third quarter to push their lead to five before Sartory stopped the bleeding 2:20 into the fourth quarter, scoring off a dish from senior defenseman John Odierna to make it 6-2. But Cortland answered with back-to-back tallies and outscored the Bullets 3-1 the rest of the way. Sartory provided Gettysburg's final goal when he converted an assist from senior Chris Fumai with 8:53 left.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts No. 20 Cabrini College at 3 p.m.
