VERO BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Cam MacDonald hit a walk-off single in the opener and the Gettysburg College baseball team came away with a split against Rutgers-Camden on the sixth day of the Bullets' spring break trip to Dodgertown.

Gettysburg (6-6) won the first game 6-5 but lost by a 3-2 count in the nightcap.

Senior Cam Riera went 3-for-6 with a pair of runs scored on the day while freshman Nate Simon was 3-for-7 with three runs and two RBIs. Senior Matt Karis also enjoyed a 3-for-7 day at the plate.

Karis worked a complete-game victory in the first game and moved into a tie for ninth on the school's all-time wins list with his 13th career victory.

Sophomore Ryan Taylor did not allow an earned run during a six-inning complete game in the nightcap.

The Bullets turned five double plays over the twinbill, including three in the first game.

Gettysburg rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the opener. The Bullets put four runs on the board in the fifth, getting a pair of two-run singles from Simon and freshman Patrick O'Grady.

After the Scarlet Raptors (6-7) tied it with a run in the sixth, the Bullets started the seventh with three straight singles from Simon, Karis, and freshman Andrew Hollis against reliever Michael Hand before MacDonald ended the game two batters later.

Simon finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs while Riera went 2-for-3 with a double. Hollis and Karis also rapped two hits apiece.

Karis (2-1) fired an eight-hitter, walking three and striking out four. Starter Tommy Potts worked six innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits and walks while fanning six before giving way to Hand (0-3) in the seventh.

In the second game, the Raptors went up 2-0 in the third, as the first two batters each reached on errors and went on to score. Gettysburg made it a one-run game in the fifth, getting some two-out lightning when senior Cory Jackmuff was hit with a pitch and classmate Chris Simard was walked. Junior Clint O'Brien then singled into center to score Jackmuff, but Simard was cut down between second and third, 8-3-6, to end the inning.

Rutgers-Camden pushed its advantage to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth when the No. 9 hitter reached on an error, was bunted to second, and singled home. But the Bullets cut it to one again when Simon and Karis stroked back-to-back singles leading off the sixth, with Simon scoring on an error.

Gettysburg threatened in the top of the seventh, when Simard singled with two outs and stole second. But reliever Chris Fries got a strikeout to end the game and earn his fourth save of the year.

O'Brien went 2-for-4 while Taylor (1-2) struck out four. He yielded six hits and did not walk a batter. Starter Andrew Hoffman (1-0) went five innings for Rutgers-Camden, giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while fanning three.

Gettysburg concludes its trip on Saturday, when it plays Richard Stockton in a doubleheader starting at 9:30 a.m. The two teams split a twinbill on Monday.
