VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Gettysburg College baseball team was dealt a pair of one-run losses by Richard Stockton College on Saturday, the final day of its spring break trip to Dodgertown.

The Ospreys, who never trailed in either game, won the opener 2-1, then claimed a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.

The Bullets (6-8), who dropped each of their final three games by one run during their southern swing, finished with 19 hits over the two games but left 21 runners on base, including 14 in the second game.

The two teams also met on Monday and split a doubleheader.

Senior Matt Karis had a big day at the plate for Gettysburg, finishing 5-for-7 while pushing his hitting streak to eight and moving to within four hits of 100 for his career. Sophomore Pat Cody, freshman Patrick O'Grady, and freshman Nate Simon all banged out four hits.

In the opener, sophomore Brett Norton worked a six-inning complete game, scattering 13 hits while Richard Stockton left 12 runners on base. The Ospreys took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Bullets tied it in the second, when Cody and O'Grady led off with back-to-back singles before Riera drove in Cody with a sacrifice fly.

Richard Stockton pushed across the go-ahead run in the sixth, when Nick Scalise singled leading off, stole second, and scored on a one-out single from Jason Gordon. Starting pitcher Adam Warburton (4-0) then worked a three-up, three-down seventh for his second win of the trip against Gettysburg.

Warburton allowed eight hits and one walk while striking out three. Norton (1-2) also walked one and fanned three.

Karis, Cody, and O'Grady were all 2-for-3 in the opener.

The Ospreys used a three-hit first inning to go up 2-0 in top of the first in the second game against senior starter Kyle Conklin. But Conklin settled in and was impressive over the next five innings, when he allowed only a pair of walks.

The Bullets left the bases loaded in the fourth but got on the scoreboard in the fifth, when Karis, Cody, and O'Grady all singled with one out. Starting pitcher Brandon Trainor escaped further damage, however, when he recorded the final two outs of the inning with runners on second and third.

Richard Stockton padded their lead with a big run in the top of the seventh, when Dan McGuckin tripled and scored on a Shawn Kessler single to make it 3-1. But Gettysburg kept it a two-run game by getting a 7-4-3 double play to end the inning, with sophomore Drew Hoppes getting the outfield assist.

Reliever John Lightbody came on to throw the bottom of the seventh for Richard Stockton, and after starting with a strikeout, Cody and O'Grady both singled. The Bullets were down to their final out following another strikeout, but that's when freshman Andrew Hollis singled to load the bases before Hoppes induced an RBI-walk. However, the rally came up short when Lightbody induced a game-ending pop-out.

Simon and Karis each went 3-for-4 in the nightcap while Cody had a pair of hits.

Conklin (0-2) allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out three. Trainor (0-1) earned the win, yielding one run on seven hits and two walks, while Lightbody earned his sixth save.

Gettysburg continues its season with four games next week, including back-to-back non-conference tilts at home. The Bullets host Juniata College at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday before taking on Elizabethtown College at the same time on Wednesday.
