Neither team led by more than two goals in a nip-and-tuck affair that saw the Bullets outshoot the Mules 37-28. Gettysburg led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter and 5-3 with 11:00 left in the opening half before Muhlenberg closed the period on a 4-1 run, capped by a Brent Siebold tally three second before the horn that gave the hosts a 7-6 halftime advantage.

The Bullets ran off three unanswered goals in the third quarter to go ahead 9-7 heading into the final stanza. The Mules still trailed by two with less than 10 minutes left before catching fire, running off four consecutive goals over a 5:47 stretch. Ardolino and Clint Watkins sparked the run with back-to-back tallies, tying the game 9-9 with 6:43 remaining. The Mules then won the ensuing face-off and scored nine seconds later on Aferiat's game-winner. Aferiat struck again with 4:10 left to push Muhlenberg's lead to 11-9.

The Bullets cut it to one on Ward's final goal with 2:22 left, and Gettysburg had four potential game-tying shots the rest of the way. But goalie Mike Horowitz made three of his nine saves in the final two minutes, including one on a Sartory shot with two seconds left.
