GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Martin Manilla scored four goals, including three in a row in the third quarter, as No. 15 Gettysburg defeated Goucher College 8-5 in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Seniors Caldwell Rohrbach and Pat Sartory added one goal and two assists apiece for the Bullets (2-0), who broke the game open with a 5-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters.

Goucher (3-1), which scored three times in the final 1:48, received three goals from senior Rory Averett while Matt Lynch handed out two assists.

Senior #J.T. McCook made 12 saves for Gettysburg while Connor Mishaw stopped 14 shots for the Gophers. Junior Nick Avedisian# was 12-for-17 on face-offs for the Bullets.

Gettysburg held a 37-18 advantage in ground balls. Avedisian led the way with six while Manilla and sophomore Alec Mitchell each picked up five.

The Bullets never trailed, though it was just a one-goal game at halftime. Gettysburg scored twice in the opening 3:21, with Sartory and junior Bobby DeWees finding the back of the net. Averett put Goucher on the scoreboard before Manilla struck with his first goal to put the hosts up 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Averett scored the lone goal of the second quarter to pull his team to within 3-2 at the break. Goucher outshot the Bullets 16-1 in the quarter, but McCook turned aside six shots during the period.

Rohrbach, a transfer from St. Lawrence University, scored his first goal as a Bullet when he converted a man-up tally four and a half minutes into the third quarter. Manilla followed up with his trifecta as Gettysburg pushed its advantage to 7-2 heading into the final quarter.

Sophomore Derek Ruebling capped the run for the Bullets with 8:01 remaining as Gettysburg took an 8-2 lead. That's how the score remained until Zachary Fratella, Averett, and Kyle Boncaro scored in a 1:25 spurt inside the two-minute mark to set the final verdict.

The Bullets conclude their three-game homestand when they host top-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in another non-league showdown.
