Robby Maddux continued his scoring surge with three goals and sophomore
Derek Ruebling also netted a hat trick as No. 17 Gettysburg took over sole possession of first place in the Centennial Conference with a 13-11 at No. 15 Washington College on Saturday.
Gettysburg (9-3, 5-0 CC) defeated rival Washington (8-3, 5-1 CC) for the 14th consecutive time and extended its season winning streak to seven games. The Bullets lead the Shoremen and 10th-ranked Dickinson College (10-2, 4-1 CC) for the top spot in the CC with only three games left on the regular-season schedule.
After netting six goals on Wednesday against Eastern University, Maddux put up three more tallies on six shots at Washington. He also scooped up five ground balls. Ruebling came off the bench for his scoring output, while senior
Caldwell Rohrbach turned in one goal and three assists. Junior #J.T. McCook# made nine saves in the cage.
Grant Hughes led the Shoremen with a game-high four goals, while Michael Trapp corralled 10 ground balls. Goalie Peter Stewart made 10 saves.
Gettysburg, which hasn't dropped a decision to Washington since 2004, utilized a five-goal run spanning the first and second periods to take the lead for good. Trailing 2-1, Maddux netted his second goal to spark the run at 4:27. Ruebling came right back 27 seconds later to hand the visitors a 3-2 lead at the end of the opening stanza.
Maddux completed his hat trick off a feed from Rohrbach just 51 seconds into the second quarter. Junior
Bobby DeWees scored unassisted at 11:49 and Ruebling polished off the run with a man-up goal to make it a 6-2 advantage with 8:29 left in the first half.
Hughes accounted for all of Washington's goals in the first half and sliced the deficit to 7-4 with the final tally 17 seconds before the break.
Washington and Gettysburg traded blows for the remainder of the game with the Bullets maintaining at least a two-goal lead throughout. The Shoremen pulled to 8-6 with a goal by Bennett Cord at 7:40 in the third period, but freshman
Bijan Firouzan lit the lamp just 36 seconds later to set the margin at three.
McCook prevented Washington from pulling to within a goal with a save on a shot by Patrick Coyle with less than nine minutes left in the game. Gettysburg turned the defense into offense as Ruebling came down the field and netted his third goal to make it 12-9 with 7:02 on the board.
After Washington scored its final tally with 36 seconds left to cut the deficit to 13-11, junior
Nick Avedisian won the final face-off to help clinch the victory.
Washington out-shot Gettysburg 38-33 and held a slight lead in ground balls at 33-31. The two sides split 28 face-offs and the Shoremen committed three more turnovers (21-18).

Martin Manilla and junior
Evan Thomas each posted one goal and one assist for the Bullets. Avedisian was 14-for-27 on face-offs and scooped up six ground balls. Freshman
Jack Harvazinski also grabbed six ground balls and posted one caused turnover.
