Game Notes
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team will make its 12th consecutive appearance in the Centennial Conference (CC) playoff tournament when it takes on Dickinson College on Friday.
The third-seeded and 20th-ranked Bullets (10-5, 6-2 CC) will take on the second-seeded and 13th-ranked Red Devils (12-3, 6-2 CC) in the CC semifinals at 4 p.m. at tournament host Washington College in Chestertown, Md. In the other semifinal, top-seeded and 18th-ranked Washington (10-4, 7-1 CC) will play fourth-seeded McDaniel College (9-6, 5-3 CC) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
The two semifinal winners will meet in the conference championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday back at Washington. The conference champion earns an automatic bid in the NCAA Division III tournament.
The Bullets will be aiming for their 12th straight CC tournament opening-round victory, as they have won every conference semifinal since the league began holding a championship tournament in 2001. Gettysburg has won 13 Centennial Conference championships, including eight since the conference has used a postseason playoff to determine the champion.
Gettysburg and Dickinson will be facing off in the conference tournament for the third time. Last year, the Red Devils defeated the Bullets 6-5 in the Centennial Conference championship game. Gettysburg claimed a 12-11 victory when the teams met in the 2004 semifinals. The two teams just met this past Saturday in their regular season finale, and the Devils 12-7 victory gave Washington the top seed in the conference tournament and home-field advantage that goes with it. A Bullet win would have sent the tournament to Gettysburg.
The Bullets split their meetings with Washington and McDaniel this season. Gettysburg handed the Shoremen their only Centennial Conference loss with a 13-11 victory at Washington on April 14, but lost 12-10 at McDaniel on April 21.
Washington finished in first place in the conference for the first time since 2004, when it lost 7-6 to Gettysburg in the championship game in Chestertown.
The Bullets have been led offensively by sophomore
Martin Manilla, the conference's second-leading goal scorer who has piled up 31 goals for the season. Freshman
