DALLAS, Pa. – Senior
Andrew McLane scored just over a minute into Gettysburg's contest at Misericordia University, but the Bullets couldn't make the lead stick as the host Cougars tallied a pair of goals in the final 13 minutes to pull out the 2-1 victory in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (1-1) didn't waste any time finding the scoring column as McLane connected at 1:04 following a pass from junior
Tyler Shaffer. It was the Bullets' fastest score to start a match since
Teddy Smith '11 scored in 53 seconds against Franklin & Marshall College on Oct. 1, 2008.
Neither team put another shot on goal in the opening half, although the hosts threatened to strike with five first-half corner kicks.
Earl in the second period, sophomore
Kyle Franks tried to add to Gettysburg's lead, but his first attempt hit the post. After collecting the rebound, he took another stab at the goal but his second try sailed left in the 70th minute.
Misericordia (2-0) tied the contest in the 78th minute as Andy Bush found Eric Kishbaugh for the score. Just four minutes later, the Cougars grabbed the lead with Dan Pinto slamming in the eventual game-winner.

Connor Darrell maintained the one-goal deficit with his only save in the 83rd minute. Gettysburg tried to force overtime in the waning seconds but shots by junior
Brooks Taylor and sophomore
Will Gately were off the mark.
Misericordia led the shot count 12-8. The Cougars also held a slight edge in corners at 7-6.
Gettysburg returns home to take on Neumann College on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m.
