Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus College eliminated Gettysburg from postseason contention with a 4-1 victory in Centennial Conference men's soccer action on Saturday.

Both teams needed a victory in Saturday's regular-season finale to remain in the hunt for a spot in the five-team conference tournament. Ursinus (8-8-1, 4-4-1 CC) helped its cause early as Matt Cioeta opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Ryan Butler set the stage for the goal, crossing a pass in front of the cage that went off Gettysburg (3-13-1, 3-5-1 CC) goalie Connor Darrell's (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown) fingertips to Cioeta.

The Bullets answered back just 32 seconds later following a strange play in front of the Ursinus goal. Bear goalie Daniel Cartwright was assessed a yellow card and Gettysburg was awarded a free kick just inside the 18-yard line. Senior Andrew Bellis (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) tapped the ball to the left and classmate Tyler Shaffer (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) blasted a shot into the right side of the cage for his second goal of the fall.

Ursinus came up with what would prove to be the game-winner in the 25th minute. Following a long throw into the box, Wyatt Powell managed to get his foot on the ball for a pass to Ryan Molyneaux who drove the shot into the left side of the cage.

The Bears added two tallies early in the final frame with Cioeta picking up his second score off an assist by Dean DerSimonian and Ryan Butler kicking the ball past Darrell for his team-best 10th goal of the campaign.

Both teams finished with 13 shots and Gettysburg led in corner kicks 5-2.

Darrell finished with three stops for Gettysburg, while freshman Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) added a save in the final 7:30. Shaffer led the squad with three shots.
