ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Muhlenberg forced overtime with two goals in the last 15 seconds, including the game-tying tally with one second to go, then won it with 2:06 remaining in the extra session and the Mules stunned the 13th-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team 10-9 in a Centennial Conference match-up on Saturday.
Jon Thomas scored with 2:06 left in overtime for the Mules (6-4, 2-1 CC), who ended the game on a 6-0 run. The Bullets (5-4, 1-1 CC) led 9-4 with 12:08 remaining following a man-up goal from senior
Evan Thomas (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca).
Muhlenberg still trailed by five until Jon Thomas kicked off the rally when he scored with 7:48 left. The Mules added two more quick goals to make it 9-7 with 6:17 remaining.
The Bullets gained possession three times down the stretch, but turned it over three times, including twice on clears. Jon Thomas scored to make it 9-8 before the Mules won the ensuing face-off and Jason Mertz delivered the buzzer-beater.
The Mules won the overtime face-off but the Bullets took over following senior
J.T. McCook's (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) 16th and final save. But another failed clear gave it back to Muhlenberg, setting up Thomas' game-winner.

Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) and freshman
Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) finished with two goals apiece for Gettysburg while sophomore
Bijan Firouzan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and junior
Martin Manilla (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) recorded one goal and one assist each.
Jon Thomas finished with three goals to lead Muhlenberg while Adam Schlauch made 10 saves. Ian Jones won 15 of 21 face-offs.
The Bullets never trailed in regulation after Smith scored the game's opening two goals. Kyle Houston struck with 14 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 2-1.
Freshman
Tim Murphy (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored his first collegiate goal with 12:05 left in the first half before the Mules tied it on consecutive tallies. But Gettysburg answered with a 4-0 run spanning the second and third quarters to push its advantage to 7-3. Maddux scored with 2:49 to go in the half before senior
Bobby DeWees (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) found paydirt with 12 ticks showing, making it 5-3 at the break.
Firouzan and Manilla capped the run in the third quarter for the Bullets before Jack Reilly halted the rally for Muhlenberg when he scored with 5:28 left to make it 7-4. Maddux and
Evan Thomas scored inside the first 2:52 of the fourth quarter before Muhlenberg's comeback.
Gettysburg picks up its schedule next Saturday, when it visits Swarthmore College at 1 p.m. in another Centennial Conference affair.
