RADNOR, Pa. – Facing its third nationally-ranked opponent in as many games, the 19th-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-5 decision to sixth-ranked Cabrini College in a non-conference match-up Wednesday afternoon.

The undefeated Cavaliers (5-0) used a 7-0 run spanning 15:46 to open up a 12-2 lead with 7:55 left in the third quarter.

Senior Derek Ruebling (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton) and junior Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) scored two goals apiece for the Bullets. Sophomore Jake Adoni (Fort Washington, Pa./Germantown Academy) played the first half in goal and finished with four saves and yielded nine goals before giving way to freshman Thomas McBride (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School), who stopped three shots and allowed eight goals over the final 30 minutes.

Corey Elmer led Cabrini with five goals and three assists while Mike Leyden added three goals and two assists. Anthony DiSanzo added three goals for the Cavaliers, who scored the most goals against Gettysburg since Salisbury University in 2003. Hank Altschuler made five saves over the opening 55:21

Cabrini never trailed after scoring the game's opening goal just 1:05 into the contest. The Bullets answered quickly, as Ruebling struck at the 10:50 mark of the opening quarter. The Cavaliers ended the period on a 4-0 run to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the quarter.

Gettysburg cut into the lead when sophomore Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) scored with 10:24 left in the first half. But the Cavaliers closed the second quarter on another 4-0 run, as the hosts upped its advantage to 9-2 at the half.

Cabrini continued its tear in the second half, scoring three times in the opening 7:05 to assume their 10-goal lead. The Bullets outscored the Cavs 3-2 over the remainder of the quarter, with Maddux scoring twice around Ruebling's second goal to make it a 14-5 game heading into the final stanza.

The Cavaliers outscored Gettysburg 3-0 in the fourth quarter to set the final score.

The Bullets continue their season on Saturday, when they host Eastern University at 1 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.
