GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) scored a career-high nine points on five goals and four assists while reaching 100 career points to lead the 19th-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team to a 21-4 victory over Eastern University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

The Bullets (3-3) scored all 21 of their goals after the first quarter, with 15 coming in the second half. Gettysburg broke the game open with a 13-0 run spanning 20 and a half minutes of the final two quarters.

Maddux, who has now scored 17 goals in three career games versus Eastern, reached the century mark with his team's first goal of the second half.

Senior Martin Manilla (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) added five goals and one assist for Gettysburg, which outshot the Eagles 58-25 and posted its highest scoring output since a 21-7 win over Merchant Marine on March 8, 2011. Junior Bijan Firouzan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) contributed three goals while sophomore Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) notched one goal and two assists. Freshman Kyle Hewett (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) had a big game at the X, finishing 17-for-22 on face-offs.

Junior defensive midfielders Nick Alibrandi (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Jack Harvazinski (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) picked up six and five ground balls, respectively, with Alibrandi posting a career-high. Harvazinski also dished out two assists, as did junior Steven Mahon (Setauket, N.Y./St. Anthony's). Senior Jon Maddalone (Carolina Beach, N.C./Choate Rosemary Hall [Conn.]) made six saves in goal.

Eric Waibel and Andy Jameson notched one goal and one assist apiece for Eastern (5-2).

Desmond Decker scored 3:32 into the game to put the Eagles up 1-0, and thanks to six saves from starting goalie Pat Groschan, Eastern led by the same score at the end of the first quarter.

The Bullets would go on to outscore the visitors 6-0 in the second quarter, receiving goals from five different players. Firouzan scored twice while Maddux, Manilla, sophomore Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), and Smith all found the back of the net as the hosts took a 6-1 lead into the locker room.

The Gettysburg offense continued to roll in the third quarter, when it outscored Eastern 7-2. After the Eagles scored two of the first three goals of the period to make it 7-3, the Bullets embarked on their decisive run and ended the quarter on a 6-0 spurt, assuming a 13-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Maddux converted twice while sophomore defenseman Billy McAvoy (Villanova, Pa./Episcopal Academy), junior Jimmy Morris (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay), Firouzan, Manilla, and junior defensive midfielder Andrew Toner (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) all added one goal each. It was the first career goal for both McAvoy and Toner.

The Bullets tacked on seven more unanswered tallies to start the second half, scoring the first three over a 26-second span. Maddux scored first, then assisted on back-to-back goals by Manilla.

Maddux had in the team's first five goals of the final quarter, as he scored his final goal before assisting Manilla for the third time to make it 18-3 with 7:34 left.

Three additional Bullets each registered their first collegiate goal by scoring inside the final five minutes. Freshman Sean Fumai (Weston, Conn./Weston) tickled the twine with 4:56 left before junior Brendan Morris (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay) struck eight seconds later. After Eastern halted Gettysburg's run on a goal by Bill Schwartz with 19 seconds left, senior Wes Lincoln (McLean, Va./Landon [Md.]), a face-off specialist, beat the buzzer with 0.8 seconds showing. Lincoln also finished 4-for-6 on face-offs.

Gettysburg plays its Centennial Conference opener next Saturday, when it visits Haverford College at 1 p.m.
