Bullets Season Ends at No. 6 Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close in the Centennial Conference semifinals, as the fourth-seeded Bullets lost by a final of 20-7 at top-seeded and sixth-ranked Washington College in a game played through a heavy rain Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Shoremen (14-1), who raced out to a 17-0 lead by early in the third quarter, advance to the conference championship game where they will face Franklin & Marshall College, an 11-9 winner over Dickinson College in the other semifinal.
 
Senior Martin Manilla (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) posted two goals and one assist to lead the Bullets (9-7) and finished his career ranked 10th in goals (118), tied for 13th in assists (61), and 11th in points (179) all-time at Gettysburg. Junior Bijan Firouzan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added one goal and one assist while junior defensive midfielder Jack Harvazinski (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) posted one goal, one assist, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
 
Senior Jon Maddalone (Carolina Beach, N.C./Choate Rosemary Hall [Conn.]) started in goal for the Bullets and made eight saves over the opening 31:39. Sophomore Jake Adoni (Fort Washington, Pa./Germantown Academy) played 13:21 between the pipes and made two saves before freshman Thomas McBride (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) stopped one shot while playing the fourth quarter.
 
Sid Looney scored seven goals to lead Washington while Stephen Luck added four goals. Kodie Englehart notched one goal and four assists for the Shoremen while Ted DiSalvo made eight saves and allowed just one goal over 39 minutes of action. Michael Trapp won 17-of-24 face-offs.
 
The Shoremen led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter, then piled up seven more tallies in the second period to take a 12-0 halftime advantage.
 
Washington continued its run by scoring the first five goals of the third quarter before Firouzan put the Bullets on the scoreboard with 8:22 remaining in the frame. Harvazinski, junior Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's), sophomore Jameson Smith (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), and Manilla would all go on to score before the end of the quarter to make it a 20-5 game heading into the final period.
 
Manilla and sophomore defenseman Geoff Davis (Jefferson, Md./McDonogh School) scored the only goals of the fourth quarter to set the final score.
