LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team will once again be in the hunt for a conference crown according to the Centennial Conference Preseason Poll as the Bullets were selected fourth overall by the league coaches and athletic communications directors.
 
According to the poll, the race for the conference crown will be hotly contested once again as five teams picked up first-place votes. The top five selections in the ballot were separated by just 21 points as well.
 
Defending regular-season champion McDaniel College and Johns Hopkins University earned the same number of points (136), but the Green Terror took home three more first-place votes to earn the top spot. McDaniel scooped up eight first-place votes and the Blue Jays grabbed five. Muhlenberg College, which won the Centennial postseason tournament last winter, was right behind the duo with 135 points and four first-place votes.
 
Gettysburg wrapped up the No. 4 position with 127 points and one first-place vote. Haverford College rounded out the expected playoff teams with two first-place tallies and 115 points. The remaining half of the poll went as follows: Ursinus College (74 points), Dickinson College (53), Swarthmore College (50), Washington College (41), and Franklin & Marshall College (33).
 
Gettysburg has competed in the Centennial Conference playoffs in each of the last three seasons, including claiming its first league title in 2013. The Bullets posted a record of 16-9 overall last season with a 10-8 mark in conference play.
 
Gettysburg debuts at the Frostburg State University Jim Crawley Tip-off Tournament on Nov. 20-21. The Bullets open against SUNY Geneseo at 8 p.m. next Friday.
