Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) scored three goals, and sophomore
Sean Fumai (Weston, Conn./Weston) notched one goal and four assists as the eighth-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse defeated No. 16 York (Pa.) College 12-6 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon a sunny and warm Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

The Bullets (5-0) continued their best start since 2010 by outscoring the Spartans 7-2 in the first half and outshooting York 39-23 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools in men's lacrosse. Gettysburg pushed its lead to as much as eight (11-3) late in the third quarter before the Spartans scored three unanswered goals.

Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) finished with five saves for Gettysburg, which scored four goals in the final 1:49 of the first quarter to open up some breathing room early on. Senior
Brendan Morris (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay) and sophomore
Chris Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) picked up five ground balls apiece while sophomore
Connor Sweeney (Great Falls, Va./Potomac School) finished 9-for-18 on face-offs.

Tyler Hutson posted three goals and one assist for York (2-3), which suffered its third straight loss. Dillon Hannah added three assists for the Spartans while Caleb Abney made 12 saves.

York scored first when Tyler Hutson struck with 11:06 left in the opening quarter before the Bullets got on the scoreboard with 4:10 on the clock, when Smith converted a dish from Maddux. Maddux then scored a man-up goal off Fumai's first assist, kicking off Gettysburg's furious finish to the period.

The Bullets received a break when a Spartan defender had his pass sail into the Gettysburg goal to make it 3-1 with 49 seconds left. The Orange and Blue then won the final two face-offs of the quarter, leading to a Fumai goal with 16 seconds left a tally from senior defensive midfielder
Jack Harvazinski (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) with three ticks showing to make it 5-1 at the of the stanza.

Gettysburg continued its 7-0 run by scoring the first two goals of the second quarter. Maddux assisted on another Smith goal with 12:34 left, then scored off Fumai's second helper to stretch his team's lead to 7-1. York ended its drought when Matt Horn scored a man-up goal with 3:04 left in the half.

The Bullets pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Spartans 4-1 to open the period. Fumai assisted on the first two goals of the quarter – a man-up tally by Smith with 12:16 on the clock and Maddux' third goal with 11:03 left. After a Hutson goal with 6:40 remaining, Maddux and
Brendan Morris scored back-to-back unassisted goals to hand the Bullets their 11-3 advantage.

York scored the next three goals before Maddux converted one last time, setting the final score with another unassisted tally with 4:02 left.
