Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) scored five goals and the fifth-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team toppled Haverford College 14-3 in its Centennial Conference (CC) opener at a sunny Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Bijan Firouzan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added three goals for the Bullets (7-0, 1-0 CC), who took over the game with a 13-0 run that spanned 40:44 across all four quarters.

Seven different players scored a goal for Gettysburg, including four from the defense or specialists. The Bullets outshot the Fords 40-21 and won 13-of-21 face-offs.

Freshman
Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) finished with nine saves and allowed just two goals over 54 minutes of action for the Bullets while sophomore long-stick midfielder
Chris Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) also helped spearhead the defense, which yielded a season-low in goals and limited Haverford to seven first-half shots. Palladino tied a career-high with four caused turnovers and picked up a career-best six ground balls. He also scored his first collegiate goal.

Geoff Fulgione (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School) finished 8-for-13 on face-offs for the Bullets, who continued their best start since 2010, while classmate
Connor Sweeney (Great Falls, Va./Potomac School) was 5-for-8.
Maddux, the two-time reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week, moved into seventh in school history in career goals, pushing his current total to 131. He has now scored 14 goals over his last three games and 24 in his last five outings.

Geoff Geppert scored two goals to pace Haverford (3-4, 0-1 CC) while Eric Caliendo made 10 saves.

Maddux converted a dish from senior
Brendan Morris (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay) 53 seconds into the game, and neither team would score for the next five minutes. But the Fords got on the scoreboard with 8:54 on the clock when Isaac Krier found the back of the net.

The Bullets answered, however, with a four-goal outburst over a 7:17 stretch late in the quarter. Senior defensive midfielder
Andrew Toner (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) got things started when he scored on a deep shot with 8:28 on the clock for his second career goal before Firouzan tickled the twine just 37 seconds later. Â

Jimmy Morris (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay) and Maddux struck twice inside the final 4:16 of the period to give the Orange and Blue a 5-1 advantage. Junior
Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) provided the assist on Maddux' second goal.

Firouzan struck again with 13:13 left in the opening half before junior defenseman
Geoff Davis (Jefferson, Md./McDonogh School) followed up with 8:42 remaining, finishing off a clear with the third goal of his career to give his team a 7-1 halftime lead.

The Bullets came out of the gates firing, as they netted four goals in the opening 2:01 of the half. They needed just eight seconds to find paydirt, as Fulgione won the opening face-off before rushing it down the field and scoring his first career goal. Maddux then scored off an assist from junior
Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) before Smith converted a feed from
Jimmy Morris to make it a 10-1 game with 12:59 to go in the third quarter.

Fulgione made another big play off the ensuing face-off, winning the ground ball before feeding Maddux, who flipped in his fourth goal of the day with 12:52 showing. Maddux registered his final tally with 2:53 to go in the period, making it 12-1.

Firouzan completed his hat trick with 13:45 left in the game before Palladino added the finishing touches, causing a turnover off the face-off before taking it in himself for the goal.

Geppert set the final score with two goals the rest of the way, including a man-up tally with 12:44 left.

The Bullets return home on Wednesday, when they take on Widener University at 3:30 p.m. in their final regular-season non-conference game of the year.
