Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Nine players reached the scoring column for Gettysburg College as the fourth-ranked Bullets remained perfect with a 15-5 non-conference victory over Widener University Wednesday at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Gettysburg (8-0) continued its best start since 2010 with a dominant effort on Wednesday. It started in the center of the field where the Bullets won 12 of the first 13 face-offs. Junior Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) ripped off the game's first goal at 12:20, the first of three-straight scores by the hosts.

After Widener (1-7) posted its first tally, Gettysburg ran off a five-goal run down to 2:42 of the second period. Smith posted back-to-back tallies just 31 seconds apart during the run, while sophomore Sean Fumai (Weston, Conn./Weston) connected off a feed from senior Brendan Morris (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay) to make it 8-1. Morris would score with six seconds left in the half to give the hosts a 9-2 advantage.

Vince Marra scored the first two goals of the third quarter to pull the Pride to 9-4. The margin was still five when senior Robby Maddux (Baltimore Md./St. Paul's) hit the back of the net to kick off a five-goal run to end the game. Freshman Sam Kaplan's (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) first collegiate tally at 3:12 set the final score.

Gettysburg finished with a 16-8 edge in face-offs. The Bullets also dominated in shots (44-28) and ground balls (36-20).

Smith finished with three goals and one assist, while Fumai, Maddux, and Morris each produced two goals and one assist.  Junior Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) also posted a pair of goals. Maddux was active in disrupting Widener's transition game and finished with three caused turnovers.

Freshman Connor Sweeney (Great Falls, Va./Potomac School) won 14-of-19 face-offs and snagged four ground balls. Senior Nick Alibrandi (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) corralled five ground balls. Freshman goalie Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) logged five saves.

Tyler Schulte and Marra each finished with two goals and one assist for Widener. Goalie Chris Treat recorded 10 saves and four ground balls.

Gettysburg travels to Muhlenberg College on Saturday, March 28. The Bullets face off with the Mules at 1 p.m.
