Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) scored the game-winning goal with 7.5 seconds left as the 17th-ranked Bullets rallied in the final minute to beat No. 3 Lynchburg College 7-6 in a thrilling non-conference men's lacrosse tilt Sunday afternoon at a sunny Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) tied the game at 6-6 with 50 seconds left before the Bullets won the ensuing face-off. But the two teams than exchanged turnovers, and the Bullets regained possession near midfield following a failed Lynchburg clear with 30 seconds to go. Junior
Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) then accepted a pass up top and drove down the left lane before crossing a pass to Maddux, who quickly buried the game-winner from five yards out.

The Hornets won the face-off but Chris Hower's deep shot ricocheted off a defender as time expired.

Maddux and Smith scored three goals apiece for Gettysburg (4-0), which is off to its best start since the 2010 squad opened the year 9-0. Werner finished with one goal and one assist while sophomore
Sean Fumai (Weston, Conn./Weston) dished out two assists. Sophomore long-stick midfielder
Chris Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) posted five ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman goalie
Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) saved six shots and registered a key caused turnover late in the game.

Austin Stewart scored three goals to lead Lynchburg (2-1) while Chris Hawley made 16 saves for the Hornets.

Gettysburg trailed 6-5 after Stewart scored his final goal with 4:07 left. Lynchburg had the ball with a minute and a half remaining, but that's when the Bullets pulled Brady, who drifted behind the goal to break up a pass at the end line and give his team possession. Gettysburg called timeout with 1:16 left, and 26 seconds later Smith took a pass up high, drove past his defender with a swim move, and rifled in a shot from 15 yards out deadlock the score at 6-6, setting up Maddux' heroics.

It was a defensive struggle in the early going, as the team sides managed just three goals in the first half and six through the opening three quarters. Maddux scored off a Fumai assist 2:37 into the game to account for the only goal in the first quarter.

Smith converted a dish from senior
Bijan Firouzan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) with 7:38 left in the first half to nudge Gettysburg's lead to 2-0 before Colin McGuire put the Hornets on the board with 5:37 showing, making it a 2-1 game at the half.

Stewart scored his first goal of the game with 11:08 remaining in the third quarter to tie it at 2-2 before Maddux struck off another Fumai assist with 9:29 left. However, it turned out to be Gettysburg's final lead until Maddux' game winner.

Todd Galvin scored for Lynchburg with 3:08 left in the third quarter, and it was a 3-3 game heading into the final stanza. That's when the two offenses came alive, starting with a goal from Dane Angell that put the Hornets up 4-3 with 12:38 left in the game.

The two sides then traded goals twice, starting with Werner's goal with 7:57 left that made it 4-4. Stewart answered for the Hornets with 6:27 remaining to put his team back up by one before Smith found paydirt with 5:03 showing, knotting the score at 5-all. Stewart converted once again with 4:07 left before Gettysburg's late rally.

Gettysburg plays its third nationally-ranked opponent this season when it hosts sixth-ranked York (Pa.) College at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
