GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Bullets responded to one of their tightest game of the season with their most lopsided victory of the year, as third-ranked Gettysburg defeated Dickinson College 17-5 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

With the win, the undefeated Bullets (11-0, 4-0 CC) continued their best start in program history and snapped a six-game losing streak to Dickinson, topping the Red Devils for the first time since 2010.

Gettysburg led 7-3 at halftime, then broke the game open in the second half with a 7-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters.

The Bullets were coming off an 11-10, overtime victory at Swarthmore College this past Saturday in which they overcame a three-goal fourth-quarter deficit. The Orange and Blue posted their second-highest scoring output of the season behind only their 18-7 win at Messiah College on March 4.

Nine different Bullets found their way into the scoring column, with seniors Bijan Firouzan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) leading the way with three goals and two assists apiece. Maddux broke into the top-10 in school history in career points, pushing his current total to 188 while moving into a tie with Joe Brody '10 for fifth all-time at Gettysburg in career goals with 139.

Senior Brendan Morris (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay) added three goals and two assists while sophomore Sean Fumai (Weston, Conn./Weston) contributed two goals.

Defensively, senior Nick Alibrandi (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) notched four ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) made seven saves.

Five different players scored a goal for Dickinson (3-8, 1-3 CC) while Nick Baxter finished with 13 saves.

Gettysburg outshot the Red Devils 47-25 in a game that featured 14 penalties, with seven being called on each team. The Bullets finished 3-for-5 in extra-man opportunities while Dickinson was 2-for-4. Gettysburg also scored their second man-down goal of the season.

The Bullets opened the game on a 3-0 run, with junior Jameson Smith (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), Firouzan, and Maddux all scoring in the opening nine minutes. The Red Devils got on the scoreboard with 4:10 left in the quarter before the Morris brothers connected for the third time this season. Brendan scored off an assist from his twin brother, Jimmy, with 3:26 showing to hand the hosts a 4-1 lead.

Dickinson struck 15 seconds into the second quarter to slice the deficit to two, but Gettysburg ended the half on a 3-1 spurt. Brendan Morris scored a man-up tally before Firouzan added an impressive man-down goal with 8:10 left. Following a restart, Firouzan nearly raced the length of the field before scoring on the run to make it 6-2.

The team sides traded goals in the final 3:25 of the half, with Fumai striking with 1:17 left in the stanza and giving his team its four-goal advantage at the break.

Fumai and Maddux scored seven minutes apart in the third quarter to make it 9-3 before Greg Castro answered for Dickinson with 5:01 showing on the third-quarter clock. But that's when the Bullets responded with their 7-0 surge, which featured a goal from seven different players. Senior defenseman Ben Armellini (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) kicked off the run with 2:28 remaining in the third quarter, striking in transition for his first career goal. Maddux followed up with 50 seconds left in the period before Brendan Morris, Smith, junior Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), freshman Geoff Fulgione (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School), and Firouzan completed the run, making it 16-4 with 8:15 left.

Freshman Austin Schoenfeld (Rockville, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) set the final score when he struck with 11 seconds remaining.

Gettysburg continues its season on Saturday, when it visits 15th-ranked Ursinus College at 1 p.m. in a big Centennial Conference match-up. The two sides will enter the game tied for first place in the conference standings at 4-0.
