Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg piled up a 20-13 shot advantage, but Ursinus College claimed a 1-0 double-overtime victory over the Bullets in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action Saturday evening at Clark Field.
Â
The match was the conference opener for both teams.
Â
Erin Farrell scored off a rebound in the 104th minute for the Bears (5-1, 1-0 CC). From the right wing, Ursinus' Katie Bell ripped a shot that was deflected by senior goalie
Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia). With Gray on the ground, in the left side of the box, Farrell lifted a shot into the net for the game-winner.
Â
Gray finished with five saves for Gettysburg (3-1-2, 0-1 CC), which saw its school-record of six consecutive shutouts (dating back to last season) come to an end.
Â
Courtney Sullivan stopped nine shots for Ursinus.
Â
The Bullets held an 8-7 edge in shots in the first half, but each keeper made a spectacular save in the opening period. Gray made a diving stop at the left post in the 21st minute before Sullivan went airborne to corral a laser from junior
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) in the 32nd minute.
Â
Gettysburg created numerous additional scoring opportunities the rest of the way, including a blast from senior
Lauren Schapiro (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) that smashed off the crossbar in the 54th minute. Sullivan made another diving stop on a Theurer header in the 67th minute.
Â
The Bullets outshot the Bears 10-3 in the second half, but the two sides managed just one shot apiece in the first overtime. Sullivan made a save for Ursinus in the 98th minute.
Â
Schapiro placed another shot on goal in the 103rd minute but that's when Sullivan made her ninth and final save.
Â
Gettysburg resumes play next Saturday, when it visits Washington College at 4 p.m. in another Centennial Conference match-up.
