Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg struck first, but Johns Hopkins University rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory over the 19th-ranked Bullets in Centennial Conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening at a blustery Clark Field.
Samy Ramadane scored with 1:35 left in overtime for the Blue Jays (6-3-1, 2-1 CC), who handed Gettysburg (7-1-1, 2-1 CC) its first loss of the season.
Sophomore
Patrick Santini (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) put the Bullets on the scoreboard in the 10th minute, dribbling in from the left and ripping a shot from the top of the box inside the left post for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Blue Jays pulled even in the 42nd minute when Eric Buck's corner kick from the right deflected off leaping goalie
Peter Como's (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) hands and into the net, making it a 1-1 match at the half.
Johns Hopkins held a slim 5-4 shot advantage in the first half, then outshot the Bullets 4-2 in the second stanza, when each goalie made one save.
Both keepers made a spectacular save in the overtime period. Bryan See went airborne to corral a header from Santini in the 92nd minute before Como made a sprawling stop on a well-struck ball from Ramadane a minute later.
The Blue Jays were whistled for a pair of yellow cards seven seconds apart with just under two minutes left in the extra session. But Hopkins gained possession following the second free kick and pushed the ball forward into Gettysburg territory. Cole Rosenberger one-touched a pass to Ramadane, who from the left side of the box slipped a shot past the oncoming goalie for the game-winner.
Hopkins finished with an 11-8 advantage in shots. See finished with three saves while Como made two stops.
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, when it hosts Haverford College at 7 p.m.
