Box Score 2 CRESSON, Pa. – Sophomore
Brad DeMartino (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) threw a five-hit complete victory in the nightcap and junior
Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) went 3-for-6 with two triples and five RBIs for the day as the Gettysburg College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Mount Aloysius College on Saturday.
Â
The Bullets (9-5) dropped the opener 12-6 but won the second game 5-2.
Â
Anderson continued to swing a hot bat and has now gone 13-for-24 with seven extra-base hits and 14 RBIs over his last five games.
Â
In the opener, Gettysburg assumed a 5-0 lead after a five-run third. Senior
Luke Lawrence (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) blasted his first career home run to make it 2-0 before Anderson drilled a two-run triple and scored on a single from senior
Andy Kelley (Newtown, Conn./Newtown).
Â
Junior starter
Aaron Bezio (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) blanked Mount Aloysius (8-6) over the first two innings before running into trouble. The Mounties made it a one-run game with a four-run third, then went ahead for good with six-run fourth that was powered by three home runs.
Â
The Bullets pulled to within 10-6 with one run in the fifth before the Mount tacked on a pair of insurance tallies in the bottom of the inning versus freshman reliever
Jonny Bray (Fairfax, Va./Robinson).
Â
Sophomore
Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) and senior
Shawn Moffitt (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) each collected two hits in the opener.
Â
Bezio (2-1) was charged with the loss after throwing 3 2/3 innings before Bray worked the final 2 1/3 innings.
Â
Gettysburg never trailed in the nightcap after scoring a pair of runs in the first, including an RBI-single from Anderson.
Â
The Mounties tied it with a two-run second, but DeMartino escaped further damage when he induced a 4-3 inning-ending double play. He would blank the hosts over the last five innings, when he allowed just two baserunners on a single in the third and an error in the sixth.
Â
The Bullets broke through with a three-run sixth, which started with a leadoff single from Moffitt. Lawrence would reach on an error before Moffitt scored on another miscue for the go-ahead run, making it 3-2. Anderson followed up with his second three-bagger of the day, chasing home two runs to set the final score.
Â
Anderson finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Sneed went 2-for-4.
Â
DeMartino (2-1) walked only one batter for the game and recorded all four of his strikeouts over the last two innings en route to his second career complete game.
Â
Gettysburg picks up its schedule on Tuesday, when it hosts Penn State Harrisburg at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
