ALTOONA, Pa. – Gettysburg outhit Penn State Altoona 31-13 while both of its starting pitchers threw seven strong innings en route to a doubleheader sweep in non-conference baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Bullets (13-6), winners of their last four games, won the opener 14-3 before capturing the nightcap 10-0.

The games were played at Peoples Natural Gas Field, home of the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Sophomore Logan Sneed (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) finished 5-for-11 for the day and was one of numerous Bullets who shined at the plate. Senior Andy Kelley (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) went 4-for-10 and enjoyed a huge performance in the second game, when he was 3-for-5 with two triples and a home run. Junior Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) finished 4-for-8 with four runs while classmate Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was 4-for-10.

Sophomore Brad DeMartino (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) started the opener, scattering nine hits and three runs while striking out a career-high 11. Junior Rich Power (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) yielded just three hits in the nightcap, striking out seven and walking none.

The Bullets fell behind 2-1 after one inning in the opener, but came back with six unanswered runs over the next four innings. The run was capped by back-to-back doubles in the fifth from senior Henry Klimowicz (Allenhurst, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and sophomore Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) that made it a 7-2 game.

The Nittany Lions (5-14) pushed across a run on three singles in the bottom of the fifth, but the Bullets settled any doubt with seven runs over the seventh and eighth.

Tom finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the opener while Klimowicz was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs. Sneed, Anderson, Probst, and senior Steve Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) all stroked two hits apiece.

DeMartino (3-1) earned the win on the mound while junior Chase Stopyra (Ocean, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) fired a pair of shutout innings in relief.

Andy Kelley accumulated 10 total bases in the nightcap.
In the nightcap, Power (4-1) was in a groove early and no-hit the Nitanny Lions through the first four innings, when he faced just one batter over the minimum. In the meantime, Kelley supplied all the run support Power would need when he launched his first career home run – a solo drive into the leftfield bleachers in the top of the second.

Gettysburg put two runs on the board with back-to-back RBI-triples in the fourth – a laser off the leftfield wall from Tom and a shot down the rightfield line from Kelley. The Bullets scored a single run in the fifth to make it 4-0 before putting up a three-spot in the sixth, which included a leadoff triple from Kelley and a double from Wright.

Altoona finally reached Power with a two-out single in the fifth, but the southpaw went on to retire the next six batters he faced. He ran into trouble in the seventh, when the Lions came up with a single and a double with two outs, but he escaped with a strikeout.

Freshmen Jonny Bray (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and Will Wortmann (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) tossed one scoreless inning of relief apiece as the Bullets earned their third shutout of the season.

Gettysburg set the final score with three unearned runs in the ninth.

In addition to his three extra-base hits, Kelley finished with three runs and a pair of RBIs. Sneed went  3-for-6 while Anderson and junior John Convery (Media, Pa./Penncrest) collected two hits apiece.

The Bullets return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Susquehanna University at 3:30 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
