Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Another big first half lifted the ninth-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team to a 14-4 Centennial Conference (CC) victory over Swarthmore College Sunday afternoon at a sunny, blustery Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

The Bullets (7-2, 3-0 CC), who won their fifth game in a row, outscored the Garnet 9-0 in the first half, one week after jumping to an 11-1 halftime lead in a 16-2 victory over Muhlenberg College.

Senior Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) led the Bullets offensively with three goals and three assists while freshman Blake Gray (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) notched his third-straight hat trick with three goals. Junior Reed Barbe (Greenwich, Conn./Suffield Academy) added a career-high five points on two goals and three assists while junior Ivan Morris (Houston, Texas/Houston Christian) contributed two goals.

Sophomore Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) made seven saves over 50 minutes in goal for Gettysburg, which has now held its last three opponents to a combined 10 goals.

Nathan Relich scored two goals for Swarthmore (6-4, 1-2 CC) while Cole Fox made 10 saves.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but was rescheduled due to the threat of snow.

Gray scored two of Gettysburg's first three goals, taking assists from senior Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and Barbe, while Morris also scored in the early going. Smith struck for a man-up tally with 5:10 remaining in the quarter, finishing off a feed from Werner.

Senior Mike Distler (Lutherville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) completed the first-quarter scoring when he cashed in unassisted with 3:06 on the clock, making it a 5-0 game after 15 minutes of play.

Gettysburg scored another man-up goal with 10:44 left in the opening half, when Barbe finished off a dish from Smith. Sixteen seconds later, Barbe reversed roles and assisted on Gray's third goal as the hosts' lead ballooned to 7-0.

Werner got into the act with 5:42 showing when he converted a pass from Smith. Then with five ticks showing, Smith struck again off a dish from Barbe as the Bullets assumed their 9-0 advantage at the break.

Swarthmore broke up the shutout early in the second half, scoring three times in the opening 4:47. But Gettysburg answered with three tallies of its own to restore its nine-goal lead going into the final period. Morris scored again with 6:56 on the clock before junior defensive midfielder Brendan Hathaway (Darien, Conn./Darien) potted his first collegiate goal with 4:31 to go in the quarter. Barbe scored off another feed from Smith with 3:35 left, making it a 12-3 game.

The Bullets added two more goals for good measure in the fourth quarter. Gettysburg struck 12 seconds off the opening face-off, when sophomore Geoff Fulgione (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School) won the draw before finding Smith for his third and final goal. Sophomore Patrick Decker (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) completed the scoring when he buried his first goal of the season with 9:40 on the clock. The Garnet set the final score with 7:33 to go.

Senior Jake Adoni (Fort Washington, Pa./Germantown Academy) played 6:15 in goal for the Bullets and made a pair of saves while yielding one goal before junior Thomas McBride (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) played the final 3:25, turning aside one shot.

Gettysburg continues its season on Wednesday, when it visits Dickinson College at 4 p.m. in another Centennial Conference tilt.
