Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior Jake Adoni (Fort Washington, Pa./Germantown Academy) made a career-high 16 saves and the sixth-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team earned a 12-5 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at McDaniel College Saturday evening.

Playing just their second night game of the season, the Bullets (10-2, 6-0 CC) ran their winning streak to eight games while holding a sixth-straight opponent to six goals or less. The Orange and Blue have not allowed more than eight goals to any opponent during their current win streak.

Gettysburg led 5-2 at the half before breaking the game open in the third quarter, when it outscored the Green Terror 6-2.

Making just his third career start, Adoni surpassed his previous high save total by 10. He made seven of his stops in the fourth quarter, when McDaniel outshot the Bullets 17-4.

Senior defenseman Geoff Davis (Jefferson, Md./McDonogh School) helped lead the defense with five ground balls and four caused turnovers while junior long-stick midfielder Chris Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) also picked up five ground balls.

Senior Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) paced a balanced offensive attack for the Bullets, posting two goals and two assists, while freshman Tommy Heller (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) contributed one goal and three assists. Junior Reed Barbe (Greenwich, Conn./Suffield Academy) notched two goals and one assist while senior Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and freshman Blake Gray (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) scored two goals apiece.

Zach Monzo led McDaniel (3-11, 1-6 CC) with two goals while Eric Ritchie made 11 saves.

Barbe opened the scoring for the Bullets just 45 seconds into the contest before senior defenseman Bill McAvoy (Villanova, Pa./Episcopal Academy) scored his first goal of the season and second of his career less than a minute later. Werner and Barbe added first-quarter tallies and the Bullets led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Gray scored the only goal of the second quarter, striking midway through the period to give the visitors their three-goal advantage at the break.

Werner and Smith went back-to-back to open the second half before Monzo scored twice to cut the deficit to 7-4 with 7:08 on the third-quarter clock. However, that's when the Bullets reeled off a 5-0 run that spanned into the fourth quarter. Heller, Gray, senior Mike Distler (Lutherville, Md./Loyola Blakefield), and sophomore face-off man Geoff Fulgione (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School) all scored to make it an 11-4 game heading into the final stanza.

Smith capped the scoring for the Bullets, striking with 12:51 to go. Neither side would score again until Alex Hanna tallied for McDaniel with 2:00 left, ending a 20:08 scoreless drought for the Green Terror.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Franklin & Marshall College at 4 p.m. in another Centennial Conference outing.
