Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team shut out McDaniel College for over 53 minutes to start the game en route to a 12-2 victory over the Green Terror in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday evening.

Junior goalie Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) made 11 saves for Gettysburg (9-5, 5-2 CC), which now finds itself tied with Dickinson for second place in the Centennial Conference standings heading into Saturday's regular-season finale. The top four teams qualify for the conference playoffs.

Freshman Mitch Wykoff (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) helped fuel the Bullet defense with eight ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior Geoff Fulgione (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School) won 10-of-14 face-offs and also contributed a goal.

McDaniel's two goals were the fewest the Bullets have allowed since their 9-2 win over Ursinus in last year's Centennial Conference championship game. Gettysburg has now yielded just six goals over their last two games.

Offensively, Gettysburg was hot early on, outscoring the Green Terror 6-0 in the first quarter and 8-0 in the first half. The Bullets went on to outscore the hosts 12-0 to start the game before McDaniel broke up the shutout with a pair of goals inside the last seven minutes.

Senior Sean Fumai (Weston, Conn./Weston) scored three goals for the Bullets while sophomore Tommy Heller (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) and Blake Gray (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) added two goals and one assist apiece. Sophomore Jack Harvey (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) contributed two goals for the Orange and Blue, which has won its last three games.

Coming off a 10-day break from competition, Gettysburg showed little signs of rust. Heller struck twice in the opening 2:17 before the Bullets erupted with four goals over a 3:30 span later in the quarter. Fumai scored with 6:58 on the clock before Fulgione cashed in on the ensuing face-off, making it a 4-0 game. Sophomore Mike Risser (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) added a goal with 5:19 left in the opening quarter before Fumai drained his second tally with 3:28 showing to give the visitors their early 6-0 advantage.

Gray continued Gettysburg's fast start when he scored with 10:53 left in the opening half. Fumai completed the first-half scoring when he netted a man-up tally with 3:35 left, good for his team-leading 32nd goal of the season as the Bullets took their 8-0 lead into the locker room.

Brady made six of his saves in the first half, when Gettysburg held just a 17-15 shot advantage.

Freshman Brian Kolen (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) got into the action in the second half, scoring 59 seconds into the stanza for the Bullets. Gray struck again with 7:54 remaining in the quarter and Gettysburg led 10-0 heading into the final period.

Harvey netted both his goals in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to complete the scoring for the Bullets. Carson Marshall put McDaniel on the scoreboard with 6:49 left before Timothy McNichol set the final score with a tally at the 1:44 mark.

Senior Ryan Goodall (Dover, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) came on to play the final 4:48 in goal for Gettysburg, making two saves and yielding one goal.

Bryan Ruygrok made five saves and gave up eight goals over the opening 31:44 for McDaniel before Jacob Katzen stopped six shots and allowed four goals over the remaining 28:16.

The Bullets finished with advantages in shots (37-35) and ground balls (26-20).

Gettysburg concludes the regular season on Saturday, when it hosts Washington College at 1 p.m.
