GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It is one of the highly anticipated events of the season for the Gettysburg College men's and women's cross country teams as they participate in the Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships that will take place at Haverford College this Saturday.
The women's varsity 6,000-meter race will kick off at 11:00 a.m. before the men's varsity 8,000-meter race that will begin at noon. A combined men's and women's open race will also be held at 12:45 p.m.
Ten schools will compete for the women's title while nine teams will vie for the men's crown. Each team may run up to 12 competitors in each championship race. Last year's CC Championship was hosted by Gettysburg for the first time since it was held at the Battlefield in back-to-back years in 2008 and 2009.
Last season, Johns Hopkins women's team won its 10th-straight Centennial Conference title, while the Haverford men's squad claimed its fourth-straight conference title.
The top-14 finishers in each championship race receive All-Centennial Conference recognition. The top-seven are named First Team All-CC while the eighth through 14th-place finishers garner second-team accolades. The championship race winners are named the Centennial Conference Runners of the Year while the top freshman finishers capture CC Rookie of the Year honors.
Last season, the women's squad finished fifth among 10 teams with
Elizabeth Hilfrank '18 and
Sarah Rinehart '19 (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) leading the way with fourth (21:55) and 12th (22:43) place finishes, respectively, in a field of 100 runners. They each earned all-conference honors for the first time in their careers.
For the women, four Bullets return after competing in the championship race of last year's conference meet, including Rinehart. Rinehart returns as the team's top finisher as she has been the No. 1 runner in three races and the No. 2 in one race this season. Fellow classmates
Margot Hoagland (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North),
Colleen Campbell (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy), and
Madison Fox (Akron, Pa./Ephrata) also bring experience and will look to improve their times from last year's race.
The women have a slew of first time runners competing in the championship race. Senior

Gettysburg men's team is led by junior

Alex Petrecca (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde). Sheldon has finished as the team's No. 1 runner in two races, while Petreeca has placed No. 1 in one race and No. 2 in two races.
The Bullet men also return plenty of athletes with CC Championship experience, as seven of the squad's competitors who competed in last year's championship race are back, including Petrecca and Sheldon. Robinson, senior
