GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Jack Freeman (Haddonfield, N.J./Pennington School) set a new program record in the 400 individual medley and Gettysburg College maintained its hold on second in the team standings at the Centennial Conference Swimming Championship on Saturday at the Bullets Pool.
Swarthmore extended its lead in the standings with four individual victories and a runner-up showing in the 200 free relay. After 12 events, the Garnet lead with 605.5 points. Gettysburg is second with 411 and Franklin & Marshall College third with 377.
The evening session opened with Franklin & Marshall holding off a hard-charging Swarthmore quartet for a victory in the 200 free relay. Gettysburg finished right behind the two teams in third as sophomores
Oliver Yancey (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and
Aedan Collins (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), senior
Parker Sorenson (Evergreen, Colo./Homeschooled), and freshman
Sam Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) touched the wall in 1:23.46.
Gettysburg also won the "B" final of the 200 free relay as sophomores
Jack Edelson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence School) and
Brian Berry (Canton, Conn./Canton) teamed with junior
Ogden Leyens (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) and senior
Francisco Nieves (Alexandria, Va./Edison) for a time of 1:25.41.
Freeman followed by establishing a new program record in the 400 IM. The sophomore made his move in the breaststroke leg of the race and closed with a strong 100 free for a time of 4:06.58, breaking the previous mark of 4:08.25 set by
Madison Jaulin in 2015. Freeman finished fifth overall in the race as Swarthmore's Jeremy Rockaway sped to the victory in 4:02.99. Freshman
CJ Hewitt (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) took eighth in the final heat with a mark of 4:14.98.
Both Edelson and Collins secured spots in the 100 fly finals with the former finishing fifth at 51.39 and the latter taking sixth at 51.50. Sophomore
Danny Petrillo (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was the lone Bullet in the 200 free finals and placed sixth with a career-best time of 1:42.73.
Yancey scored the bronze medal with a third-place showing in the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore posted the third-fastest time in program history at 58.42. Junior
Adam Dias (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) placed eighth in the heat at 59.03.

Jeff Ragatz (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) turned in the team's top performance in the 100 back, winning the "B" final with a time of 52.51.
The final day of the CC Championship starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday with preliminary heats of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly. The first set of finals of the 1650 will close out the morning session. The evening and final session of the meet opens at 5 p.m. with the final heat of the 1650 followed by the aforementioned events and the 400 free relay.
