Meet Highlights
  • Gettysburg held a 15-point advantage over Franklin & Marshall entering the final day of competition. The 1,650 featured a total of four national qualifying times. Proxmire surged to the front of the pack through the first 200 yards, but Willem Stoll from Franklin & Marshall slowly moved past the Bullet junior with high-28 splits. Proxmire set a new program standard through 1,000 yards at 9:37.76, but still trailed Stoll by four seconds. The F&M swimmer closed out with a national qualifying time of 15:49.62, while Proxmire posted a personal-best time of 15:57.86. Both Ben Freeman (16:07.03) from Swarthmore and Logan Cort (16:09.56) from Dickinson also posted NCAA "B" cuts.
  • Andrew Feeley form Washington College won the 200 back for the third consecutive season, but he had to fend off a stiff challenge from a pair of Gettysburg swimmers. After notching an NCAA qualifying time in the prelims, Feeley was just off that pace at 1:50.40 in the finals. Cox finished right behind with the second-fastest time in program history at 1:51.55. Ragatz recorded his third top-five showing in the 200 back by placing fourth at 1:52.85.
  • Gettysburg sent three swimmers into the championship finals with Collins, Yancey, and Nonemaker finishing within 0.10 of each other. Franklin & Marshall's Chris Schiavone set a new pool record at 43.99 on the way to gold.
  • Dias ended his Gettysburg career with a strong showing in the 200 breast, placing fifth overall in 2:10.88. Petrillo dropped his prelim time to finish seventh in 2:11.79. Tom Graminski from F&M won the heat with a pool, conference, and championship meet record time of 2:01.40.
  • Edelson gave Gettysburg its third gold medal of the meet and completed a sweep of the fly races with a dramatic finish in the 200. The junior was fifth after the first 50 yards with F&M's Jack Sinton setting a strong pace at the lead. Sinton looked to be in control coming home for the final 25 yards, but a hard-charging Edelson pulled even midway down the lane and managed a last-ditch reach to touch the wall first by just 0.12 seconds. Edelson turned in a personal-best time of 1:52.39 and became just the third Bullet to sweep the fly races at the CC Championships and first since Pete Casares '98 in 1996.
  • Trailing by 14.5 points entering the 400 free relay, Gettysburg needed a pair of wins and some help to get past Franklin & Marshall. The Bullets took care of business by winning the consolation final, but Schiavone led off the championship heat with a blistering split of 43.78. Gettysburg battled its way to third, while F&M posted a new championship meet record of 2:59.84.

By the Numbers
  • Franklin & Marshall secured its first title since 2010 and its ninth overall.
  • The 18.5 point margin was the second-closest margin of victory. Franklin & Marshall edged Gettysburg by 17 points in 2000 and the Bullets won by the same margin three years later.
  • The top three teams finished within 100 points of each other for the first time in Centennial Conference history.
  • The event featured 24 NCAA "B" cut times, seven pool records, eight championship meet records, and four conference records.
  • Gettysburg finished the championship meet with three gold, nine silver, and two bronze medals.
  • The Bullets posted a national qualifying time in the 800 free relay. Individually, Proxmire posted "B" cuts in the 500 and 1,650, while Yancey notched a qualifying mark in the 50 free. The list of invites to the NCAA Division III Championship on March 18-21 will be announced in the coming weeks.
  • Gettysburg broke two school records. Proxmire set a new mark in the 1,000 with a 9:37.76 split in the 1,650 race. Edelson knocked down the 100 fly record at 49.93.

What the Coach Said
"The men were at a disadvantage when we started. We were only swimming 17 guys at the championship meet and that's tough. That puts a lot of pressure on every single swim. To finish less than 20 points out of first place a man down is a testament to what those gentlemen have done all year and the way they got after it every single day. It breaks my heart they didn't win because they had the guts out there. They worked hard at it, they wanted it, and they fought in every single race."
