Men’s Track Competes at Home Invite

Bullets competed at home for the first time since 2019

GETTYSBURG, Pa. –
The Gettysburg College men's track and field team competed at its home invite on Saturday in perfect weather conditions, racking up nine top-three finishes.   
 
Gettysburg's Top Performers
  • Luke Matzke '21 (Collegeville, Pa./Malvern Prep)
    • 10,000-meter run – 2nd (33:13.35 – 10th all-time)
  • Will Hopkins '22 (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton)
    • 800 Meter Run – 2nd (1:57.61 – Personal-Record)
Meet Highlights
  • Matzke blazed through the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:13.35 to slice roughly four seconds off his previous PR to finish as runner-up. With his time, he now ranks 10th all-time in outdoor track and field history. Classmate Nick Rose (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) also competed in the 10,000-meter run and set a PR time of 37:32.17 to place right behind in third.
  • Hopkins ran an incredible 800-meter race as it came right down to the wire with Alex Dixon from Johns Hopkins University. Hopkins was closely approaching Dixon towards the finish line, but Dixon ended up winning by clocking 1:57.18 while Hopkins set a PR time of 1:57.61 to finish as the runner-up.
  • Junior Angus Brouillard (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) placed second in the 400-meter dash, clocking a PR time of 52.34.
  • The 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Arthur Keegan (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), sophomore Caden Giordano (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic), junior Corey Palazzolo (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), and senior Colin Motill (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) recorded a time of 44.60 to claim second.
  • Giordano and Keegan joined freshman Michael Sutera (Oak Ridge, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) and sophomore Eric Liedtka (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) in the 4x400-meter relay 'A' team to collect second place with a time of 3:42.56. The 'B' team of Hopkins, seniors Christian Rodriguez (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey), Owen Crosby (Wilmington, Del./Newark Charter), and Jack Kenyon (CenterPoint, N.Y./Harborfields) place right behind in third (3:44.36).
  • Palazzolo finished with a pair of other top-three finishes as he placed second in the high jump (6-00.75) and third in the long jump (19.06.75).
  • Gettysburg placed third out of four teams with 97 points. Johns Hopkins University won with 203 points.

Gettysburg competes at the Centennial Conference Championship hosted by Muhlenberg College in Lancaster, Pa. on May 2.
