GETTYSBURG, Pa. –The Gettysburg College men's track and field team returns to action for the first time in over a year this Saturday at Dickinson College.
The Bullets completed their 2019-20 indoor season and were unable to compete in the outdoor campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gettysburg saw impressive performances during the indoor season that included two schools records, six individual victories, four All-Centennial Conference honorees, and 17 program top-10 marks.
The Bullets return a strong core of talented athletes along with four all-conference recipients that will provide the necessary experience needed this season.
"Having the core of our upperclassmen back on campus this semester has been a tremendous asset," said the second-year Head Coach
Bryson Hartzler. "They are helping us set a standard for the program and are remarkable examples for the first-years on campus as well to the underclassmen that didn't have an opportunity to compete for the Bullets last spring.
"The upperclassmen have certainly returned to campus with a renewed passion for the sport and I look forward to seeing what they can accomplish this spring."
The Orange and Blue will be armed with contributors from senior sprinter and team captain
Colin Motill (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and seniors
Luke Matzke (Collegeville, Pa./Malvern Prep), and
Nick Grissinger (Palmyra, Pa./Milton Hershey) who will be competing as a distance runner and in multi-events, respectively. In addition to juniors
Matt Weller (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill),
Angus Brouillard (Watertown, Mass./Watertown),
Corey Palazzolo (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), and
Will Hopkins (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton). Weller and Palazzolo will be competing in the jumps, Brouillard in the sprints, and Hopkins in the distance running.
Grissinger is a four-time all-conference honoree between the indoor and outdoor seasons, while Weller and Palazzolo tallied their first all-conference accolade during the 2019 outdoor season.
Sophomore jumper
Caden Giordano (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and freshman sprinter
Arthur Keegan (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) will also be looking to help aid in the Bullets success this season.
Having endured a year off the track and field, the Bullets are ready to roll.
"The main goal I want to accomplish this season is to give the student-athletes as many opportunities to compete as they can and to see continued improvement over our condensed season," said Hartzler.
Gettysburg's schedule consists of four meets with the home invite on April 24 and the conference championship on May 2 in Lancaster, Pa.
In the Centennial Conference Preseason Poll, Gettysburg was selected fifth out of seven teams competing this season. Johns Hopkins University earned the top billing with sixth first-place votes followed by Ursinus College with one first-place vote.
No fans will be allowed at athletic contests hosted by Centennial Conference institutions this spring. The home invite at Gettysburg on April 24 will be streamed live.
