How It Happened…
- First Half: Gettysburg wasted no time tallying a goal as Tennant made a hard shot into the back of the net three minutes into the opening half. The Pride tied it up at 1-1 19 minutes later, but within two minutes, the Bullets regained the lead. Tennant and O'Donnell helped set up freshman Aidan Muller (Fish Hoek, South Africa. Putnam Science Academy), who drilled a hard shot into the top of the goal to make it 2-1. With five minutes to go, the Bullets added another tally off a corner kick as junior Connor Fife (Newtown, Pa. Holy Ghost Prep) headed the ball in with five minutes to go in the half. Gettysburg blasted 16 shots compared to Greensboro's three to hold a 3-1 advantage heading into halftime.
- Second Half: The Bullets scoring spree quickly continued in the second half as O'Donnell took the corner kick, setting up junior Brandon Raudenbush (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) for the header into the net to push the lead 4-1. Junior Jack Carroll (Leonia, N.J./Bergen Catholic) added his name to the scoring list as O'Donnell along with junior Mike Carracino (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), who helped the drive to Carroll's tally to extend the lead 5-1 with 28 minutes remaining. Within the next five minutes, Greenboro's William Curry accumulated a goal, which ended up being the final for the Pride. Freshman Aidan Gaynor (Parsippany, N.J./Pingry School) received a pass from sophomore Nathaniel Comi-Morog (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) to score the last goal of the game at the 86:21 marker, and Gettysburg handed Greensboro its second loss of the season.
By the Numbers
- O'Donnell's three assists tied the record set by a handful of Bullets and became the first player since Henry Smith '17 to accomplish the feat. Smith was credited with three assists in a 4-3 loss against Haverford College on October 3, 2015. Since transferring to Gettysburg, O'Donnell has accrued nine career assists.
- The last time Gettysburg scored six goals was back on October 5, 2011, against Albright College.
- Muller, Gaynor, and Tennant each produced their first career goal.
- Gettysburg dominated in shots 32-12 and corner kicks 9-1
