Cardile Joins Men’s Lacrosse Coaching Staff

Former Penn State All-American rounds out Gettysburg’s new-look staff

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Former Penn State University All-American Nick Cardile has been added as an assistant coach to the Gettysburg College men's lacrosse coaching staff, joining one of his former mentors and current Bullets' Head Coach Peter Toner.

Cardile helps round out a new-look coaching staff heading into the 2022 campaign and rejoins Toner, who was Penn State's associate head coach for the last 11 years. Toner was named the program's new head coach last summer, following in the footsteps of coaching legend Hank Janczyk, who retired after 34 seasons at the helm. Toner hired another Penn State alum, Erik Holt, in the fall and will draw upon Cardile's Division I experience to oversee goalies and face-offs this spring.

"I am thrilled that Nick has decided to join the coaching staff as we embark on our first season here at the college," stated Toner. "I know his work ethic, lacrosse IQ and leadership qualities will make him a great role model for the current players. He was an incredible leader and player at Penn State and was very motivated and selfless in his approach. I know he is excited to step on the field February 1st to help in any way he can to achieve our goals as a program."

Cardile spent five seasons at Penn State, taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility as a result of the pandemic. He was a two-time All-American as a defenseman, earning honorable mention in 2019 and second-team status in 2020. Cardile had a breakout year as a junior, starting all 18 games and finishing with 40 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers as Penn State set a school-record for wins (16), captured the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles, and advanced to the NCAA Division I semifinals. He served as a team captain in each of his final two seasons.

Cardile, who was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team in 2019 and was a four-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, finished his career with 101 ground balls and 53 caused turnovers in 63 games.

After graduating with a degree in liberal arts with an emphasis in criminology and sociology, Cardile took a job with Dakota Investments in Philadelphia. He also worked at the Maple Zone Sports Institution and served as an assistant coach for the organization's 2023 team in the summer of 2019.

In addition to his duties on the lacrosse sideline, Cardile will serve as an assistant in the Office of Athletic Communications and will assist the department in its marketing efforts.

Gettysburg finished 4-2 overall in the shortened 2021 campaign. The new coaching staff will lead the Bullets into their season opener against Eastern University on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
