FOR THE FOES

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Swarthmore opened up the scoring in the second inning of game one, tallying three runs on four hits and one error and recording a one-two-three home half of the inning to keep Gettysburg contained. The Garnet tacked on one more in the top of the third on a walk, stolen base, and wild pitch.
• The Garnet tallied two more runs over the fourth and fifth innings and recorded two more defensive one-two-three innings in the bottom of both the fourth and fifth to lead 6-0 after five.
• Gettysburg was able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Matt Nichols (White Plains, N.Y./Byram Hills) drew a walk, before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. A throwing error immediately after allowed him to come home for the Bullets' first run of the game.
• Swarthmore tacked on three more in the top of the seventh, with all three runners crossing home plate on wild pitches. In the top of the eighth, Austin Burge was hit by pitch and advanced on a single, before stealing home to make it a 10-1 Swarthmore lead. In the home half of the inning,
Andrew Donlan entered the game and sent the first pitch he saw over the left field side of the fence for Gettysburg's second and final run of the first game.
• A Donlan single, Garnet throwing error, and
Kyle Miller (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) plated Gettysburg's first run of the nightcap in the bottom of the third. The Bullets kept Swarthmore scoreless in the top of the fourth and tallied four runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning.
Matthew Peipher (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Twp.) got the hitting started with a double, and
Preston Toothman (Orlando, Fla./William R. Boone) singled to put Peipher in scoring position. A single by
Mabret Levant scored Peipher and put runners at the corners, and
Tristan Neels followed right after with a bomb over the left field fence to give the Bullets a 5-0 lead.
• Gettysburg extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth, with a double by
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), Toothman walk, and throwing error putting both Pistner and Toothman in scoring position. A single by Levant brought both runners home to give Gettysburg their largest lead of the game, 7-0.
• Swarthmore began to chip away at the deficit in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits. The Garnet used two straight singles followed by two straight walks to plate their first run of the game, and a two-RBI single by Jett Shue made it a 7-3 game. A fielder's choice led to a throwing error by the Bullets, scoring the final Garnet run of the inning.
• The Garnet got within two in the top of the eighth, off singles by Joe Radek and Shue, as well as a fielder's choice that allowed another Swarthmore run to score.
• A big ninth inning for Swarthmore gave them the lead for the first time in the nightcap. The Garnet sent eight to the plate and scored three runs on two hits. A walk, wild pitch, and double by Emmet Reynol scored the first run, and the tying run crossed the plate on a throwing error. With a Shue single, the Garnet plated their final run of the game to take the lead, 8-7.
• Shue came in to close out the game, and did so, retiring three Bullets in a row for Swarthmore to preserve the sweep.
