THE SKINNY STORY
Three Swarthmore tallies in the first half would stand up for a 3-0 Garnet victory over Gettysburg in both teams' Centennial Conference opener, a game in which Swarthmore dominated offensively throughout to keep Gettysburg scoreless.
THE LEADERS
•
Samantha Grayson (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) made six saves in goal.
FOR THE FOES
• Allie Zitelli tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Garnet.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• It only took Swarthmore six minutes into the first half to crack the scoreboard, as Allie Zitelli and Lauren Lior passed back and forth, finding Ava Gizzie who deposited the ball in the back of the net to open the scoring. Another Garnet goal came just 3:13 later as Zitelli was awarded a penalty kick and converted to give the hosts a 2-0 lead less than ten minutes in the contest. After two more Swarthmore shots that goalie
Samantha Grayson got her gloves on, the Garnet broke through once more in the 21st minute as Lior turned it over to Liesel Blau, who snuck the ball past Grayson. Swarthmore took five more shots from then to the end of the half, but couldn't convert, while Gettysburg wasn't able to notch one.
• Swarthmore had two more looks at cage, one off target and one saved by Grayson, before Gettysburg took their first of the game.
Kirin Kunukkasseril (East Windsor, N.J./Princeton) had Gettysburg's first look of the day, but it was off target.
Cameron Hughes (Neptune City, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven Regional) had the Bullets' best scoring opportunity of the game with a shot into the bottom of the cage in the 86th minute, but Swarthmore goalie Lila Travers preserved the shutout.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Swarthmore held a huge 22-4 shot advantage and had four corners to Gettysburg's two.
• Swarthmore's Lauren Lior totaled seven shots.
