THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg once again needed a late rally to force overtime before securing a 77-72 win at Bryn Athyn to remain undefeated on the young season.
THE LEADERS

Carl Schaller (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the Bullets with his 15th career 20-point game, finishing with a season-high 29 points. The senior guard also reached 1,000 points for his career just over five minutes in to the second half. He finished the night with 1,012. He also had six rebounds and three assists.

• Jalen Jackson led the Lions with 25 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals.

• After two
Carl Schaller free throws in the game's first 90 seconds, Malik Carson drained a 3-pointer and Jalen Jackson hit two free throws for a 5-2 lead with 17:14 showing. A Schaller tripled tied the game at 7-all just 1:30 later but Bryn Athyn reeled off seven straight to double up Gettysburg with 12:08 on the clock. A Will Little jumper stretched the lead to 24-14 three minutes later. The Bullets slowly cut into the deficit until
Nate Williams (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney) was fouled on a 3-point attempt in the final second of the first half. He hit two of the three attempts from the charity stripe to make it a 31-28 game at the break.
• The teams traded points start the second half until Schaller scored five straight to tie the game at 37-all with 17:19 remaining.
Akim Joseph (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Notre Dame Fairfield [Conn.]) added a layup to give the Bullets a 39-37 edge. Trailing 43-42, Schaller used a screen and pulled up for a 12-foot jumper with 14:51 to play, putting his team in front and hitting the 1,000-point milestone in the process. After a single Joseph free throw put the visitors up by two, the Lions ran off seven straight points in just 55 seconds to take a 50-45 lead with 13:17 on the clock. Trailing 54-49, a Schaller 3-pointer and Williams layup around a Jalen Jackson layup closed the margin to 56-54 with 8:30 to play. Just shy of 90 seconds later, Williams hit a layup to tie the game for the fifth time. Issac Marshall, however, countered at the other end to put the hosts back in front with layup of his own. Trailing 64-56, Williams bookended a 9-0 run over two minutes to take a 65-64 edge with 1:55 showing. With 48.5 seconds left, Will Little drove and converted a three-point play for a 67-65 lead. On the other end, Joseph got to the rim to tie the game with 30.1 seconds left. Bryn Athyn held for the final shot and a last-second attempt was off the mark, sending the game to overtime.
• After a Jackson layup to start the extra session, Schaller hit 1 of 2 from the charity stripe and
Jordan Stafford (Galloway, N.J./St. Joseph Hammonton) hit a layup for a 76-75 lead with 3:31 showing. Jackson and Schaller then each hit one free throws to keep it a one-point game.
Aidan Mess (Brookeville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) hit two free throws in the final 90 seconds to extend the lead to three. After two misses from the charity stripe at the other end, Schaller got to the rack with 28.8 seconds to push the lead to five. A Keith Bullock Jr. steal-and-layup closed the margin to three with 15.8 seconds left but Schaller hit both free throws with eight seconds left for the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY

Aidan Mess pulled down a game- and career-high 16 rebounds while blocking five shots. He added seven points.

Nate Williams finished with 16 points while
Jordan Stafford added 15. Stafford also had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
• Gettysburg shot 16 of 35 from the free-throw line in the game but connected on 4 of 5 in the final 90 seconds of overtime to seal the win.
• The Bullets are off to their first 5-0 start to a season since starting the 2019-20 season with a 6-0 mark.
