THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel and Gettysburg were knotted six apiece going into the ninth inning, but the Bullets gave up four runs in the final inning and could not score any of their own to allow the Green Terror to sweep the season series with a 10-6 victory.
THE LEADERS
•
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the offense with a pair of two-run home runs. He was 2-for-4 on the day with four RBI and one walk.
FOR THE FOES
• Connor Henderson pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing no runs and striking out one to pick up the win on the mound.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg staked themselves to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after
David Preziuso (Selbyville, Del./Caravel Academy) was walked and
Jack Burke (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) singled. Both runners stole a base and
Adam Hicks (Edgewater, Md./Gilman School) sent a two-out single to center to score both Preziuso and Burke.
• McDaniel took over in the top of the fourth, putting together a leadoff single and a double to put runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly plated their first run of the game before a Ben Davis two-run home run made it a 3-2 ballgame in favor of the Green Terror.
• The back-and-forth continued in the bottom of the fifth as Burke singled and
Jack Pistner hit his first home run of the day to regain the lead, 4-3.
• Two walks wrapped around a wild pitch to open the away half of the sixth inning and put runners on first and second. A double by Shea McKenna plated both runners to give McDaniel the one-run advantage, which they stretched to two with a Kyle Carl two-out RBI single.
• In the bottom of the seventh, Burke drew a walk before Pistner sent his second home run of the day to the exact same spot and tied the game, 6-all. The margin held there until the top of the ninth. McDaniel started with a leadoff single, and reached on an error to put two in scoring position. A hit batter loaded the bases with no outs, and a sacrifice fly broke the tie in favor of the Green Terror, 7-6. The visitors added to their ninth-inning cushion by scoring on a failed pickoff attempt and a groundout. McDaniel picked up the final run of the game on a two-out McKenna single to lead 10-6, and turned their third double play of the game and grounded one out to take the victory.
