GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg will travel to Chestertown, Md. for the first round of the 2024 Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse championship tournament on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
In the second year of the new five-team format in which the No. 4 seed host the opening round, the fifth-seeded Bullets (8-7, 4-4 CC) faces fourth-seeded Washington (Md.) (6-10, 4-4 CC) with the winner advancing to Thursday's semifinals.
Tuesday's winner will travel to top-seeded Swarthmore (14-1, 8-0 CC). Third-seeded Muhlenberg (10-7, 6-2 CC) travels to second-seeded Dickinson (14-2, 7-1 CC) for the day's other semifinal. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
The semifinal winners will advance to Saturday's championship game, which will be played at the site of the highest remaining seed. Game time will be determined following Thursday's semifinals.
Tickets will be sold for each round of the CC tournament and will be available soon on the Centennial ticketing homepage. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students age 6 through high school and senior citizens. Children five and under as well as students and staff from conference institutions are free.
The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on May 18 with six first-round games. The second and third rounds will be held on May 11 and 12. The NCAA field will be announced on Sunday night.
The Bullets are seeking their 16th conference title and first since 2016. It is the 22nd tournament straight appearance for Gettysburg. The Bullets also in search of their 29th NCAA tournament bid.
In the regular-season meeting between Gettysburg and Washington, the Shoremen ended the regular season with an 18-14 win in Chestertown on Saturday.
Jack Dunleavy (New Providence, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) leads the attack with 55 points and 24 assists. His 31 goals is second on the team.
Quinton Mather (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farm) paces the squad with 35 goals. Mather is second on the team with 40 points while
Charlie Johnson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) has 37 points on 25 goals and 12 assists.
Andy Marquet (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) leads the defense with 23 caused turnovers and is second on the team with 46 ground balls.
Will Hedley (Charlotte, N.C./The Hotchkiss School) has a team-best 57 ground balls and is third on the team with 21 caused turnovers. Frank Barbara (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) has matched Marquet with 22 caused turnovers while adding 36 ground balls.
Chase Morgan (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) has a 10.24 goals-against average and .517 save percentage in goal this season.
