THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg nabbed two come-from-behind victories to sweep Muhlenberg. A game one pitcher's duel saw the Bullets win 6-2, and Gettysburg grabbed a walkoff victory in game two, 4-5.
THE LEADERS
•
Alexander Wilkie-Viscio (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) picked up the win in game one with a career-high seven strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work.
•
David Preziuso (Selbyville, Del./Caravel Academy) led the Bullets offensively with four hits, four runs, two walks, and two stolen bases.
Â
FOR THE FOES
• Brendan Hughes led the Mules with three hits.
Â
THE REST OF THE STORY
• A pitcher's duel in game one saw Muhlenberg plate the first run of the game in the first inning on a single, stolen base, and RBI groundout. Wilkie-Viscio struck out the final two Mules batters of the second inning and the first two of the third inning, and Mules pitcher Ryan Friesen struck out five and allowed just one hit to maintain the 1-0 Muhlenberg advantage until the sixth inning. A Muhlenberg single allowed Thomas Pranzo to knock in the Mules second run of the game in the top of the inning.
• The Bullets plated their first run of the day in the bottom of the seventh.
Kyle Crozier (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) came in to pinch hit and doubled.
David Preziuso (Selbyville, Del./Caravel Academy) singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Back-to-back RBI singles by
Matt Nichols (White Plains, N.Y./Byram Hills) and
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) tied the game 2-all. A sacrifice fly by
Will Stellato (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) gave Gettysburg their first lead of the day.
•
James Weedon (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Chaminade) came in to relieve Wilkie-Viscio in the top of the eighth and went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts. In the bottom of the inning, a
Brendan Laqui (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) single and stolen base put one in scoring position for
Matthew Vivona (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), who brought Laqui home. With one on, Preziuso singled again and Pistner knocked in Vivona for the Bullets' fifth run. Preziuso then stole home to make it a 6-2 lead, and Weedon held on for the save and the four-run win.
• Gettysburg scored the first run of game two in the bottom of the third. Vivona doubled and advanced on a
Matt Nichols (White Plains, N.Y./Byram Hills) sacrifice. A single by Preziuso and Stellato sacrifice fly made it a 1-0 score. However, Muhlenberg surged in front of the Bullets in the top of the fourth with four runs on five hits. Three straight singles plated the first run, and another single, passed ball and a triple made it a 4-1 game.
• The Bullets got two back in the home half of the sixth. A Preziuso single and Pistner walk put one in scoring position. Both runners stole a base, and Preziuso came home on a throwing error. A groundout RBI by
Emmanuel Ajewole (Floral Park, N.Y./Stony Brook School) brought home Pistner for the Bullets to trail by just one.
• Gettysburg found the tying run in the bottom of the eighth, after Ajewole was hit by a pitch and then stole second.
Jack Burke (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was walked and Ajewole came home on a failed backpick to tie the game. At the top of the ninth inning,
Tyler Lizell (Upper Dublin, Pa./Upper Dublin) struck one out and the Bullets turned a double play to stop Muhlenberg. In the bottom of the inning,
Adam Hicks (Edgewater, Md./Gilman School) pinch hit and smacked a leadoff double to left field. Preziuso was intentionally walked and a bunt single by Stellato loaded the bases. A fielder's choice allowed Pistner to reach first as the Mules threw out the winning run at home with the infield drawn in. Ajewole then drew a four-pitch walk to bring in game-winning fifth run.
Â
THE INSIDE STORY
• Lizell got his first win of the season as the relief pitcher in game two.
• Crozier, Hicks, and Vivona all had doubles on the day.
• Gettysburg turned two double plays in game two.
