THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg was unable to find the offensive production it needed as the Bullets scattered seven hits and ultimately stranded 14 runners as they fell to Franklin & Marshall 5-4 to complete the home and home series.
THE LEADERS
•
David Preziuso (Selbyville, Del./Caravel Academy) went 2-for-2 with a run, two walks, and two stolen bases.
FOR THE FOES
• Franklin & Marshall's Dax Bush picked up the save by pitching the final two innings and striking out four of the six Gettysburg batters he faced to preserve the win.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg loaded the bases in the home half of the first and second innings, but neither team cracked the scoreboard until a
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) triple in the bottom of the third. A sacrifice fly by
Kyle Crozier (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) plated the first run of the day. Franklin & Marshall took the lead in the top of the fourth, however. A leadoff walk drawn by Spencer Berson gave way to a Michael von Zuben single to advance Berson to third, and both runners moved up 90 feet to bring in the Diplomats' first run of the day. After a strikeout, von Zuben advanced to third on a walk and was brought home with a sacrifice fly to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
• Franklin & Marshall made it a 4-1 ballgame at their next offensive opportunity. Andrew Filipelli knocked a one-out double to right field, and two straight walks loaded the bases. A fielder's choice and Gettysburg throwing error plated the visitors' third and fourth runs before a groundout ended the top of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Drew Butera tripled for the Diplomats and came home on a wild pitch to make it a 5-1 score.
• Gettysburg got two back in the bottom of the sixth. A one-out
Alexey Stout (Wall, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) double and Preziuso hit by pitch put runners on first and second, and both Bullets stole a base to put two in scoring position. After another hit batter loaded the bases,
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) sent a two-out single to right field to score Stout and Preziuso to cut the deficit to two runs.
• The Bullets put up one more run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs,
Robert Murphy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) drew a walk and Stout reached second on a dropped fly ball in left field, with Murphy scoring on the error. In the bottom of eighth, Bush entered to pitch and would only surrender one walk to Gettysburg the rest of the way, striking out four to stop a hosts' comeback opportunity for a 5-4 final.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Franklin & Marshall stranded seven batters to Gettysburg's 14.
• Pistner and
Tristan Neels (San Diego, Calif./Francis W. Parker) both finished with two hits. Pistner also recorded two RBI and Neels stole one base.
