Gettysburg College Athletics

Tonight's Centennial Conference (CC) opener the 40th all-time meeting between Gettysburg (1-3-1, 0-0 CC) and Swarthmore (2-0-3, 0-0 CC) in a series that dates back to 1988. The Bullets lead the all-time series 23-12-4 but the Garnet is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings, including three straight wins. The last Gettysburg victory came by a 3-0 score in 2019.

WHEN LAST WE MET: Three Swarthmore tallies in the first half would stand up for a 3-0 victory over Gettysburg in both teams' Centennial Conference opener. Samantha Grayson made six saves in goal. Allie Zitelli tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Garnet. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

LAST TIME OUT: Shenandoah carried the run of play in the first half before Gettysburg turned the field in the second half but neither team was able to find the back of the net in a scoreless draw on Saturday. Alex Jurow needed to make two saves for her first shutout of the season. Kasie Kilmer made one save for her second clean sheet of the season. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

POLLING NUMBERS: Gettysburg opens conference play today and was picked to finish sixth in the annual preseason poll with 54 points. The Bullets have finished fifth or sixth in each of the first two years of the new six-team tournament format. Swarthmore was chosen tied for second and received one first-place vote. Johns Hopkins was the favorite with all 10 possible first-place votes and 100 points. The Bullets still have two remaining non-conference games in October mixed in over the 10-game Centennial slate.

LAST TIME OUT: Swarthmore held on for a draw against Rowan 1-all on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Allie Zitelli opened the scoring in the 27th minute with her first goal of the season. STANDING EVEN: Swarthmore has played three of its first five opponents to 1-all draws. The Garnet's last two outings have both ended in ties - against Messiah on Sept. 7 and Rowan on the 11th. Swarthmore has not played a game in 10 days before opening conference play tonight. This is also just the second road trip for the Garnet and the first was just a 22-mile trip across the river to Rutgers-Camden.
