THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg used a 17-5 run that spanned both halves to open up a 16-point lead and then hit 17 of its 25 second-half free throws for a 69-62 win over Swarthmore.

THE LEADERS
Carl Schaller (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the Bullets with 19 points, including going to the free-throw line 12 times for the second straight game, converting 10 of those attempts.

FOR THE FOES
• Eddie Paquette led the Garnet with 13 points and seven rebounds.
• Zander Jimenez also added 13 points and five boards, going 9-for-10 from the line.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a back-and-forth start to the game, Lorenzo Carrara (Norwood, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) hit two free throws before a Nate Williams steal-and-layup began a run that turned a 7-6 edge into 15-6 lead with 13:36 remaining. A Jordan Stafford (Galloway, N.J./St. Joseph Hammonton) free throw made it a 19-9 game before five straight from Eddie Paquette cut the deficit in half. Cal Hanson trimmed the margin to 23-19 on a second-chance layup with 2:55 to play in the opening half before Stafford drove and converted a three-point play at the other end, starting a run that helped open up a 32-21 halftime lead. Carl Schaller had five points during the 9-2 burst.
• Williams and Schaller bookended an 8-3 continuation with triples over the first 3:08 of the second half. Swarthmore responded with a 13-3 stretch over 4:39 to close to within six. The final six of those 13 points came from the charity stripe. Four Gettysburg free throws and an Akim Joseph (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Notre Dame Fairfield [Conn.]) helped push the lead back to 49-37 with 8:49 to play. The Garnet once again closed to six behind a pair of Jonathan Stump 3-pointers but the Bullets once again had the response, using a flurry of eight quick points to make it a 59-45 game with 4:22 remaining. The lead remained larger than nine points until Brady Kageyama drove to the hoop with 1:25 to play and then hit two free throws with 31 ticks left to make it 66-60. Another Paquette drive-and-score made it a four-point game but Schaller and Stafford combined to hit three of four free throws in the final 20 seconds for the seven-point win.
