THE REST OF THE STORY
• Jumpers from
Nate Williams and
Kosta Radulovic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Perkiomen School [Pa.]) staked Gettysburg to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 68 seconds. A Keishawn Pulley 3-pointer sparked a 7-0 counter from Randolph-Macon to go in front 7-4 with 17:33 showing. The Yellow Jackets built a lead as large as six, leading 14-8 with 13:34 remaining.
Lorenzo Carrara (Norwood, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) drained a 3-pointer to cut the deficit in half with 11:56 on the clock. Still trailing 20-17,
Ray Zamloot hit a pair of free throws with 7:54 remaining to spark an 8-0 run over the next 3 minutes, 25 seconds. Randolph-Macon worked the game back even before five straight points from
Caleb Gillus (Falls Church, Va./Sidwell Friends School [D.C.]) gave the hosts a 32-27 lead but Pulley hit a jumper to make it a three-point game at the break.
• The Yellow Jackets tallied the first four points of the second half and gradually built the lead to the largest by either team at 45-38 with 11:22 to play. Six points from Williams keyed a 9-2 run that tied the game at 47-all nearly three minutes later. Zamloot put the Bullets in front 45 seconds later but Theartis Battle responded with a layup to keep it a tie game. A Radulovic driving layup gave Gettysburg a 54-51 lead with 4:54 to play before a pair of Battle putbacks gave Macon a 55-54 edge with 3:17 showing. A Zamloot three-point play on the other end gave the hosts a two-point advantage but Robinson drained a kickout 3-pointer for a 58-57 lead.
Aidan Mess (Columbia, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) had the answer at the other end with just over a minute to play. Robinson, though, had a response of his own hitting a contested, fadeaway elbow jumper for a 60-59 lead with 44 ticks left. Two Ty Showalter free throws stretched the lead to three in the final 10 seconds. The Bullets missed the front end of a one-and-one but got the rebound at midcourt. Williams appeared to beat the buzzer with a game-tying 3-pointer that would have forced overtime but, upon video review, the officials determined the clock did not start on the tipped ball at the rim and thus time expired before the shot attempt.
