THE REST OF THE STORY
• Neither offense could get much traction in the early going. A
Jordan Stafford three-point play and
Carl Schaller free throw gave Gettysburg an 8-6 edge with 13:41 to play in the opening half. Elias Sherman-Murphy tied the game at 8-all 15 seconds later. After Muhlenberg opened up a 13-10 edge, three different Bullets combined for a 6-0 burst that made it just 16-13 with 5:43 showing. Triples from Schaller and
Lorenzo Carrara (Norwood, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) helped open up a 24-17 lead with 2:39 remaining en route to a 26-21 halftime edge.
• Trailing 29-25, Peter Stanton-Shepherd hit a 3-pointer to spark a 6-0 Mule burst and take a 31-29 edge with 15:02 on the clock. Six straight points from Schaller reestablished a 37-33 advantage but six Muhlenberg points in 1:32 put the hosts back in front by two with 11:18 to play. Schaller, however, canned another triple with 10:32 showing to spark the game-clinching 14-0 run. Stafford had six points in the stretch. The lead grew as large as 57-43 on an
Akim Joseph (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Notre Dame Fairfield [Conn.]) 3-pointer with 4:32 remaining. The Mules pulled back within eight at 57-49 with 1:32 to play but the Bullets went 7-for-9 from the line in the final minute to seal the win.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg's magic number to clinch a playoff berth is down to one with four games to play. With Urisnus' 89-79 win at Johns Hopkins, the Bullets also move back within one game of the top spot in the conference. The Blue Jays do, however, hold the tiebreaker by virtue of the season sweep.
